i've got a ton of time on my hand being an unemployed new grad, so i figured i'd take some cert classes. anyone know of a good iv cert class in the SF bay area? for some reason i'm having a hard time finding one. thanks

This is a link on the BVNPT site that lists providers http://www.bvnpt.ca.gov/education/schools/iv_providers.shtml You can also find them by doing an internet search. I recommend the Nurse Education Workshops, Inc. course in San Jose because it is well taught and reasonable in price. They include the blood withdrawal portion at the end of the course if you want it.

Be advised that if you are an RN you won't be certified or receive CEU credit because IV skills are assumed with RN licensure. LVNs can be certified and receive CEU credit for the course.

oh wow good to know. i'm an RN so i guess this question is worthess.

thanks for the info

RNs take the IV cert class for their own reasons, usually as a refresher when anticipating going to a position where they will be required to use IV skills. But you, as an RN, can derive no benefit from listing the course on your resume because a prospective employer could get the idea you didn't pay attention while in your program. Then, on the other hand, they might find it positive that you worked on your skills while waiting to get a job. There is always more than one way to look at something.

THAT IS TOTALLY INCORRECT!!! There are courses specially designed to give 30 FULL OFFICIAL CODED CE hours in one lecture/hands-on 4 day(usually) course, that is FULLY aimed for CE for RN'S. It's expensive most. Also some for less hours at a single shot. It takes some simple searching for CE 30 RN AHP ect... from 9:30 to 6:00-30 or so for 4 days and just under $400.00 though! But There ARE the couses for you own competence as well. Much easier and quicker online quick 30 CE set ups for $25 and so forth. Lots going on!
