I just graduated LVN program with Gurnick Academy of Medical Arts in San Mateo on our Christmas Eve. It was blessing to me that school prepared me to my career path which I always wanted to do. I read some comments here people post earlier weren't fair for the staff and instructors at all. You people "whomever" must take part of your responsibility to prepare yourself to become a professional nurse. You cannot be so childish whining and blame other people for your own flaw. The staff at Gurnick work very hard to see we meet our goal. Our success is their success, please remember that! I enjoyed study there. I learned a lot from hand on practice at Laguna Honda and experience instructors. Please, please don't panic about Hesi and Nclex exams. You must prepare yourself for it. Nobody can put his/her brain to replace yours. Most of all learn respect authority like "teachers" God will make yours live much easier. Bless you all nurses or nurses to be out there! Lastly, It's good school. I recommend it for nurse want to be.

We learned not to go with the word "only".. Nothing to be fishy about, I just try to get people to learn how to think positive about yourself and the others that's all. Your money cannot buy your ways, otherwise the world will be such so boring. People have their ways to do things. Did you take the Hesi or Nclex yet? Did you fail? I would be pretty upset too if I fail, but not to other people. Just find ways to study and understand the materials; maybe next time you will pass.

Hey NICUrn28! I heard you pass the NCLEX at 85. Congratulations on your future endeavors.

Pnemann- Well said. I concur with everything. The policy kept changing as we went along, so much so that the nursing boards were doing an investation. It went on for months and I even recall another one of my classmates sueing the school.

dkeophil- do you work for gurnick? If so, I feel sorry for you as many administrators/teachers left. (7 to be exact during my 14 months)

If not, Im assuming when you say that you "graduated" on christmas eve, that means that you have passed your classes and prepping for the hesi. If so, maybe you should spend your time wisely and go visit the other forums in regards to hesi study tips instead of going to all the other threads lying about gurnick. There's no need to go back and forth about whether the school is good or not. All this information can be easily assess through the LVN boards.

Study tip #1. Use you own advice: Learn not to go with the word "ONLY". This is an absolute word and it is highly unlikely to be the answer.

Study tip #2. Read the question carefully. Its pretty evident that your grammer is the same as Larissa's.

    Good luck on HESI.

Like everyone else, I graduated and its a closed chapter in my life that I will never open!

DK - For your information: I passed my HESI THE FIRST TIME and I PASSED MY NCLEX-PN THE FIRST TIME WITH THE MINIMUM AMOUNT OF ?'S. I studied ON MY OWN through-out the entire program. Gurnick only provided me with clinical sites.

    Thank you very much

    Have a wonderful day

    (Thanks Mulan!)

Good for you, I know you are smart and capable to learn!
But, still school must do something right too. My intention was not to attack you guys "whomever" having bad feeling about the institution. I just want to present my perspective. We all have our own opinions, that's make us such unique people. I must focus on myself now. I need to pass all of these crazy tests asap. I need a job.

I have an appointment to go to Gurnick in Concord on Feb 2, 2010. I have heard some good things and some bad things about Gurnick.

I also attended Maric College to be a Medical Assistant 4 years ago. The teachers read from the books also. However, I studied hard and got straight "A"s. I know that this will be much more difficult, but I want this bad enough to make it work if it is possible.

I do hope that Gurnick has had the opportunity to work out it's bugs since it opened. Does anyone know if it is accredited yet? This is very important to me.

I really would like to hear from those of you who have positive things to say, those of you who passed your state tests.
Has anyone gone there and gotten a job? If so, where and about how much are you making? I know these might be personal questions, but I would really like to know what my future will hold after attending this school. Thank you so much for any help.

    Yes, they are accredited.
It's pretty good school to pursue LVN and bridge to RN. You have strong medical background, I'm confidence that you will be success in your study as well as in your career..good for you!
Please go there to talk with Admission couselor. He's very helpful, he would be happy to answer any of your questions.
    Good Luck,
