Hi! I have an interview tomorrow for an EMT position, it is not for an ambulance company or hospital, but a private location. I was certified in July and this is my first call for an interview. I feel prepared, however since I've never worked as an EMT, I know I'm a little wet behind the ears. I'm going over situations in my head and practicing what to do... any advice on what to be prepared for during an interview for EMS (or first days at work, for that matter)? Thanks!!

I'm not sure you really gave enough information so others can tell you what to expect?

I worked in the ER as a EMT tech so I guess that won't help you. I thought as an EMT you would work either Ambulance or Hospital which is where most work. (SeaWorld hires I know) but what to expect there I can't say. I had a friend who worked there and delivered 4 babies.

Just ask them what their training is for a new EMT? Do you start off shadowing someone and for how long?

I really want to work in the hospital as an ER tech, but I have been applying for a while and have not been called in for any interviews. I've been told that I really need experience. This EMT position is in a casino. I was just looking for advice regarding the interview process for an EMT (working anywhere) and what it might be like since it's my first one. :) Thanks again!

Good luck on your interview! :) I was lucky to find a hospital in the south bay that would train a new EMT as a tech and it is great experience. It wasn't my first choice (it was in fact my last choice :chuckle ) but the experience I got was invaluable and now I work there as a nurse. Any job as an EMT will provide you with good experience. I wonder what is the worst that has ever happened in a casino? Codes? People way too drunk for their own good? passing out? Fighting and injuries? hmmmm Imagine the possibilities.

Here, during the fires, people hid in the casino's because the parking lot is sooooo large that the casino was the safest place and sure enough when all of East County burned the casino's were intact! So I guess each casino has an emergency plan. I would probably ask about that too. :) Best to you!
