Does a BSN earn you more in Northern CA

U.S.A. California

Which hospitals in northern california offer more pay to RNs with a BSN?

Are homes or apartments more affordable in Northern California now with the struggling economy or has the real estate continue to hold its own?

It's a small difference in pay. Maybe a couple thousand a year. Rent in the bay area is up, since no one can afford to buy a house, but the hospital pay somewhat reflects this.

If they quit bailing out the irresponsible home owner prices will drop signifgantly, if not a total crash to 1998 levels or lower.

You don't realy get anything but alot of hate from the ADN's.

Some hospitals might have a highering preferance od BSN's, that whould be the only benifit, besides of not having to go back to get your BSN at a future date.

I think the VA pays slightly more... All others (that I know of) pay the same. Housing can be expensive, but the pay is possibly the highest in the nation. Its worth it here, but I'm biased!

LOL!!!regarding "alot of hate..." I'm only quoting my MSN and BSN and ADN educated clinical instructor when a student told her that her staff nurse said: "BSNs and ADNs get paid the same and we (ADNs) didn't have to pay for the high priced private school eduation". Instructor said: "She (staff nurse) didn't even have to say that and is probably just jealous."

Back to OPs question, from what I have heard ADNs and BSNs get paid the same INITIALLY, but because BSNs have more opportunities for management positions in the long run have the potential to get paid more.

Aye, I have seen the death stare if you dare to put BSN on your badge, if looks could kill many BSN's would be dead.

Wait a minute! You're thinking that they quit bailing out the irresponsible home owner that the prices will drop? No, that's not the problem. The reason why prices have dropped to begin with is because there are more sellers than buyers. You're seeing a lot of foreclosures on homes because a lot of the people who bought homes were put into loans that they had no idea would increase in interest rates after a certain amount of years in that loan. A lot of people were suckered into loans that they couldn't afford because they dealt with bad real estate agents and loan officers who didn't tell them that their interest rate would go up. So therefore since there's more homes on the market right now and less buyers that drives the prices down. If there are more buyers than sellers then the prices of homes go up. If they were bailing out the "so called irresponsible home owners" then you'd see less houses on the market right now that there's a recession. But that's not the case because a lot of people are losing their homes.

The more people who get there home reposesed=more houses on the market, hence a higher suply than demand=homes drop in price even more.

So the goverment bailing people out stops the market from having more homes on the market and thus it keeps the true price of the homes up.

Makes good sense.

I'm not sure I'm following you but the government bails out the rich, not the middle class, and definately not the poor....Therefore the rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer and the middle class are fading away.....Scary thought

But lets get back to nursing....I believe the question was about something regarding a BSN....I have a BA in another field, but I don't believe that has anything to do with me making more money once I get my RN...It would still allow me to move up in the ladder if I want to go into management, and it would help me towards my MSN as far as some classes being waved, but other than that I believe that they look at your RN as far as pay scale, not the degree that comes with it. A new grad is a new grad and they get paid the same no matter what the degree is....That's in the private hospitals....I heard that county hospitals do give you an incentive for having that BSN, or MSN after your name, but I don't think it's much. If someone has any idea that would be information that I'm sure people would love to know.....

 you know with the nursing shortages , I still am surprised of the hospital

"preferences " to BSN. This is nice if you have it , but the BSN is pretty much geared for those who would like to venture in the paper, administrative, area...but then this group will then require you to get a masters in nsg or an MBA......it doesn't stop, does it?

ADN , BSN or whatever, nurses are needed, most especially in the hospital. LVN are also necessary. Cna's a must to help out the primary duties. The differences of the courses are a few administrative units, some statistics.....you know in preparation beyond the floor duty, but let us not feel that we are better because we got a bachelors......or masters or whatever.......we are all needed in all different specialties and areas of health care! I know , we nurses are guilty of putting long titles after our name.......but be cautious with this. Love all nurses ! We are all different and special !:D

I'm not aware that you earn more with a BSN anywhere, really. You just have more job options. It seems that this changes back and forth depending on the fluctuations of new grads available vs the shortage. When the babyboomers start to retire, we'll see.......

As for the misguided comments about the housing market:

The feds (taxpayers) just bailed out banks, not homeowners. Have you not been paying attention? I suggest trying DemocracyNow.org instead of Fox News. Homeowners aren't getting a damn red cent.

And for the record, I got a bad home loan early in 2006 (we were fortunate enough to refinance at 5% early this year). Credit scores in the 720s and money in the bank but we were still talked out of the loan we asked for and into a loan we weren't totally sure of. Mortgage broker told us we'd be wasting money not to take her deal. We were lucky to have refinanced right before the s*** hit the fan. So yes, I can see how so many responsible homebuyers were misled (especially first-time buyers). My father told me a story about being almost suckered into a bad loan in the early 80s and of having to seek legal council to get out of the deal before it was finalized. Just be lucky you it wasn't you. It could have been. Wisdom is decision-making after experience, remember? I would certainly weigh my options differently next time. It's expensive to refinance!
