Different nursing schools: SFSU or CSUEB

U.S.A. California

Hi everyone,

I was wondering which nursing school was better, SFSU or CSUEB? I've heard that they are both good, but i was wondering which one is harder to get into?

Also, i hear that SJSU isnt that great of a nursing school? Is that true? if any of you are or were in their nursing program could you please tell me about your experiences there?

Also, where does SFSU do its clinicals? Where does CSUEB do their clinicals?

Thank YOU!

I applied to SFSU for next year. I really like their nursing program because of how easy the requirements are and so many other great things. I was a student there before too, so I had my ways around things.

I have a friend who currently is in the CSUEB nursing program. It's great too, but I was not allowed to apply since I had to finish prereqs and none can be in progress for the spring.

SJSU is ok, the only fault that I see is that many of the local residents go there, hence it's heavily impacted. Like CSUEB, I was not allowed to apply to SJSU since they require all applicants to FINISH all prereqs and NONE can me in progress. Plus they had extra prereq requirements.

My suggestion: apply to both SFSU and CSUEB definitely. If you can, apply to SJSU as well, but definitely apply to SFSU and CSUEB.

If you applied this semester for SFSU, good luck. I did too, however, I will be declining their offer if I get in. I already got accepted to CSUB for the spring 2010, for only 21 months. You should also apply there too. It's not hard to get in and the BSN in CSUB is 21 months.

SFSU though, is the hardest that I think is to get in. There are about 1200+ applicants for only about 80 spots. about 2-3 years ago, most everyone who got in had a GPA of about 3.7+ on their prereqs and completed 2/3 - 3/3 of their supplemental criteria. This year, I applied with a 3.8 prereq GPA and 3/3 supplemental criteria. The last I heard was that lots of 4.0 people were turned away, but that's because they didn't do much of the supplemental criteria.

Anyhow, I wish you good luck with your endeavors on where ever you may go.

I'm currently a BSN student at CSUEB. I didn't apply to the BSN program at SFSU because they won't accept you if you already have a bachelors degree. I did apply to their Advanced Entry Masters program but did not get accepted. I can't answer which program is harder to get in but recommend you apply to both.

As for clinical sites, it varies. For CSUEB all of our sites are in the East Bay, typically Oakland, Castro Valley, Hayward and Fremont. But it does vary year to year depending on what contracts are renewed and what facilities have openings for students. I live in SF but have found commuting to CSUEB to be pretty doable. I probably do 50% driving & 50% public transit.

Good luck!

thank you guys!

but im a little confused..what it supplemental criteria? Is that something you do besides the pre requisites...

yes.

foreign language, health care experience, volunteer, work, and as well as multicultural work meaning the poor, sick, dying, homeless, hungry, community service, etc...
