Which nursing program would you choose to attend, CSUEB or SJSU? And, why?

Your answers are kindly appreciated. :specs:

I'm in CSUEB's program and I am happy with it. Where do you live? School will be easier the closer you live to it. If they are equal in your mind, go to the one closer to you.

SJSU also takes longer - six semesters, while CSUEB is eight quarters.

I live in Fremont. So they are almost equal distances away. How do you like your instructors? And do you like your clinical sites?

I'm at Concord, so I wouldn't really be a help to you, but I like most of my instructors and I have enjoyed every clinical site. In particular, I think it is awesome to have an OB rotation at Alta Bates (Hayward campus also goes there) because there's so much stuff going on and you really learn a lot. Hayward and Concord also both have Peds at Children's Hospital, and it was a really good place to be.

No nursing program is perfect, as I'm sure you already have realized if you've read these boards at all.. a lot of satisfaction is based on perspective. If I were you, I wouldn't stress too much, because you will probably have a great experience and become a fantastic nurse no matter which school you choose, if you are a motivated and positive person. And you will probably have a not-so-great experience at whichever school if you're more negative and always looking for something to complain about.

From my experience I would advise you to choose CSUEB. I was in the SJSU nursing program for 2 semester, but decided to drop out because I and many of my classmate felt that the professors were not great and did not prepare us for clinicals AT ALL. And don't given talk about clinicals, my clinical instructor was so rude, all she did was shout at me, like shouting would make me get things right, it seems like she expects me to know everything right from the top of my head. I made me lose confidence, but most of all, she made me not want to become a nurse. So what I did the following semester was apply to CSUEB, and goodness, it was the best choice I made in my entire life!!!! I agree with jennafezz. The instructors here were so absolutely awesome! If I did something wrong at clinicals, they would sit me down and explain to me what I did wrong and how I should fix it, not scream at me like clinical instructors at SJSU (it was not only me that felt this way, many of my classmate and other students around complain about the nursing program at SJSU. Maybe some would consider it tough love, but I would say it is demeaning and would make all nursing student not want to become a nurse anymore.). I graduate from CSUEB, and now an RN, and happier than ever! If you do choose to pick SJSU, hopefully you don't have to experience what I did. I really do hope you choose CSUEB, instructors there will really prepare you after you graduate in a loving manner, not strict and degrading way. I hope this helps. Much Love!

Thanks! This is what I needed to know. I am definitely choosing CSUEB. :)

Thank you 123, ur post is very helpful

I absolutely agree with 123boohoo. Even though I don't know about the program at CSUEB, but I can tell you that the nursing program at SJSU. I had to make an account to express my disappointment in the nursing program at SJSU. I am a currently in my 3rd semester into the program, and feel so defeated. My clinical instructor is so so mean!!! I so afraid of her, I so self concious of everything I do because I am afraid I might do it wrong, but am afraid to ask her for help. I request a to change my clinical instructor, but I couldn't. I heard about how strict instructors at SJSU were, but I thought those students were weakling and complaining too much; I thought I could handle any criticism, but now I rethink it, I should've listen to their advice! I didn't think one instructor could change me so much, I am becoming more and more recluse, depress, I don't want to talk to anyone, I am making more and more mistake at clinicals yet I feel like I have no one that can help me. Should I drop out and apply to CSUEB? Please someone help me!!

ting3177, did you get accepted to SJSU? how many schools did you apply to? i am really thinking about dropping out, I cannot handle the stress anymore.

Honeybean, I just got accepted for Fall12 csueb only, I have been heard that SJSU program is very strict , and I am not insured until now. I wish u the best honeybean bc dropping out of a nursing program is a very big decision, but I bet u will make it into csueb:)

Honey bean, stay at SJSU if you can. I don't know how bad it is, but you've already put in a lot of hardwork, try to stick it out. Believe in yourself because in healthcare you definitely need to build thick skin as there are some really nasty people out there. I worked in direct patient care for 6 years and the last 4 I've been doing medical reception. You'll face many more challenges in this career. If you can find the strength to continue, you will be extremely successful in the future. I'm just telling you this because dropping out on nursing school may severely affect your ability to get into another program.

honey bean, please do not give up. I agree with 1waitingpatiently. Many people are dying to be in the nursing program, but cannot. Nursing is not an easy job, you will have to face much more difficult situation, often life and death situation. If nursing is your dream, please do not give up. I am hoping and praying every night and day to get into the nursing program, doesn't matter what i have to go through, I will tough it out because nursing is the one thing I want to do.
