College of the Canyons Nursing Program Spring 2012

U.S.A. California

Hi everyone,

I'm starting a thread for COC RN Program for Spring 2012...Anyone who has applied for the upcoming semester, please feel free to join in.

Stats:

This is my first time applying at COC.

I'm a LVN

Received my AS Bio and Phys Sciences degree last June of this year.

My pre-reqs gpa is not good so I'm hoping that my experience will compensate for that.

I also applied at AVC last May and took my TEAS on the same month. So I actually used this score when I applied at COC. My TEAS score is pretty decent so again, I hope that will compensate for my not so good pre-reqs gpa.

So anyway, this is will be a long journey for me with so much anticipation of getting accepted. Can't wait for October when the school releases the result. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Hi everyone!!!

One more week before COC emails the results...Good luck to everyone!!!

Hi mkm81... How did you do on your TEAS test? I'm sure you did well...We'll find out the results next week...Best of luck!

Just an update:

I received an email today stating that I have qualified to take the ATI TEAS and they have scheduled me for the end of the month. This is definetely 1 step in the right direction!!! Now I have to start studying so I can get a great score!!!

Hi everyone! I applied to the program and I was invited to take the teas test as well. If you're wondering, my scores are up on the ATI website. I have a 3.5 gpa overall, 3.8 in pre-reqs (1 B grrr micro lol) and I got a 91 on the teas exam. We find out next week good luck to all of youu!

Hi ilovekol...you have excellent stats! Best of luck!

Hi, I applied to the program as well and took the teas yesterday. I am hoping I get in, my prerequisites are at a 4.0 and 3.76 overall gpa but my teas score was bad I got a 66%. It was really hard for me even thought I studied so much. It was the reading and English parts that killed me. :( It sucks!.

Don't lose hope...your grades are high...plus you only need 62% on the TEAS and it's a lottery system. Did you apply somewhere else?

We'll soon know of the results next week...Best of luck!!

No, I did not apply anywhere else cuz I am still missing chemistry, I was just hoping to be in the merit section of the people they choose versus the lottery. :crying2::sniff:, but you are right I am hoping my grades and volunteering experience will make up for messing up the test.:icon_roll;)

Hi...mind if I ask how you were able to take Micro without Chemistry? I thought you needed Chemistry for this class...

Hi...mind if I ask how you were able to take Micro without Chemistry? I thought you needed Chemistry for this class...

My bad... you took Bio 107... I took Micro at AVC and Chemistry was a pre-req... that's why I asked...sorry for the confusion :)

Hi! @ilovekol, What program were you accepted to? ADN or LVN-ADN? Do you know how many semesters the wait is for LVN-ADN at COC? I'm trying to find a program out here in the AV, but am willing to travel to LA. Does anyone know of any other good programs that do not take forever to get into the LVN-ADN? I have a good GPA, but haven't taken Chemistry, seems like a lot of schools want that class. At COC do you have to have the Intermediate Algebra finished prior to applying? It said just 'eligible', but heard it had to be done. When did you apply and when do you start your program? Good luck! :nurse:

Hi NurseDalee...schools have different requirements...if it says "eligible", I guess you can already apply even if you haven't taken the class (as long as you are eligible to take that particular math class) Like I posted earlier, I thought Chemistry was a prereq for Micro, but I guess at COC you just need to have Bio107 completed (which has Int. Alg as prereq and no chemistry)...You really have to check out the school's requirements...

Did you apply this past August? AVC has a long waitlist for the bridge...I just got bumped down the list bec. those that deferred last time got priority this coming spring. The school decided to open slots for LVN next sem bec it took them 3 years last time. I figure if they did a back-to-back bridge, it might take another 2-3 years for the next one. So I'm really fighting for a spot next semester. They are only accepting 20 students. If I don't get then I'll just have to do the 3 year program at CSU...my sciences are going to expire soon...

Good luck on your journey!

Yeah At COC you just need BIO 107. Has any body heard any respond from COC I cannot wait any longer.!lol

I'm new to this sight. Here's my info: I applied to COC, LA Valley College, Pasadena City College, Glendale Community College, and LA County Allied Health. I took the Teas V test on Sept. 30th. I left the test feeling like I had failed it, but I passed with a 72.7%. I have a 4.0 GPA in the sciences with not repeats and no withdrawals. My overall GPA is only 3.1. When are acceptance/rejection letters going out for COC?

Hi Nancymard,

From what I was told, COC won't send out emails till mid Oct...so I figured they will send out emails starting next Friday. Emails for the generic and bridge program will be sent out separately...hope this helps :)

Hi @NurseDalee I haven't been accepted into a program just yet and I applied only to the ADN program, I don't have my LVN. I don't think there is a waitlist at COC. Im from Santa Monica College originally, and their waitlist is about three semesters long. Sorry, I'm not too familiar with many other programs. I also don't remember the specifics for COC; I took chem and int alg so I probably just read it over quickly.

I came back because I could have sworn at the test she said that acceptance calls would be the following week which I thought was early... haha in retrospect, that doesn't make any sense really. Next week sounds right... but did anyone else hear the proctor say that on Sept. 30??
