Hi all,

Just wanted to start up another forum for CHLA's Versant New Grad RN Program for the March 2013 cohort. Here's a link to CHLA's page: http://www.chla.org/site/c.ipINKTOAJsG/b.3579535/k.2A87/RN_Residency__Pediatrics_Nurse__RN_Versant.htm

The online app should only be open for a few more days apply now and GOOD LUCK!

i can't believe it but i received a phone call last night at 5pm to schedule an interview. i totally gave up since i hadn't heard anything on the 31st, but i guess they're still calling people! my first choice was 6W general surgery and my second was hematology/oncology. i'm kinda surprised i even got called cuz i will only have an adn but i do have a bs in something else.

Wow, talk about down to the wire and what a wonderful surprise for you...congratulations! I also have my ADN and a B.A. in something else too :) Best of luck to you!

Wow that is so awesome!! Congrats! Btw do people wear heels to their interviews? I always feel so weird wearing heels/wedges in a hospital haha

@houseblew: how do you feel your interview went? did you happen to get the names of the nurse managers interviewing? I blanked and totally did not remember their information!! Good Luck!

@lovinglife45: Ugh, I have no idea how my interview went, it felt alright, but I also think they were nice to everyone. There are a few things I wish I had said, but forgot to say. I'm just not sure. What unit did you interview for? And as far as names.... I was trying to remember them, even though I have no ability to remember names, so one had a name tag and her name was cindy, but the other had her name tag turned around, so I have NO IDEA! And the third was a nursing student, so I don't think she counts. How did yours go?

.......

@lovinglife45: Haha, that was my plan too!! and... totally failed. heh. I guess here's to hoping for the best! yeah, they timed me, at the end they said, " you have 2 minutes left, impress us" SO WRONG! there are 4-6 spots, so I hope we both get one! I'll update when I heard yay or nay! I'd love to hear from you too!

.....

@spanglec I am wearing low heels, mainly because my pants are too long, haha. I had to go shopping yesterday to find an interview-appropriate outfit that would fit my 39 weeks pregnant body!

Question for everybody, if they know: do you know if we are only being considered for our first-choice unit if that is who is interviewing us, or is it still up in the air for second choice? I'm only curious because honestly BMT and heme-onc were about equal for me, and I wondered how they were deciding who to interview. Hope everyone's interviews are going well -- congrats and best of luck to those interviewing next week!

I was interviewed by members of my specific 1st choice unit, as were the others who showed up at same time slot for theirs. If I were you, I'd stick very hard to your first choice. There are more people than spots for each dept slot and if you look like you are on the fence whatsoever, my guess is that they will choose someone else who is really gung ho to their specific unit. They want to know why you chose CHLA and their unit at this interview, don't sell them short! Wishing you the very best of luck, be confident, be all about hem/onc if that was 1st choice and I bet you'll look and do fantastic!

so you were interviewed by the unit managers and stuff? I was under the impression that this first interview was with HR?...am i completely wrong haha

I have one more question for those who have already interviewed. Did you bring copies of your resume for the panel? They told us to do this in my nursing classes but I just wanted to feel around for what people do. This is my first post-college job interview so I am still getting a feel for how it all works.
