Cedars Sinai New Grad Residency September 2014

U.S.A. California

Hi everyone! This thread is to help all of us who interviewed on 7/15/14 for the new grad program with the start date of September 2014. Hope all of your interviews went well and good luck to everyone!

@CityofAngelsRN do you know what the third round is like?

While I can't give you specifics, what I can say is this: I honestly had a great third interview mostly because I relaxed and actually enjoyed talking to my interviewer. I put telemetry as my area of interest and I was interviewed by an assistant manager of a tele floor. It's the same setup as the second interview, Harvey Morse auditorium, seats set up like you're speed dating :-) The manager introduced herself and asked me what shift I preferred so be prepared for that. She then read questions off of a piece of paper and took notes. What she asked me was very much geared toward getting to know me. There's no real way to prepare for the interview except to really understand how you can benefit your patients. Be yourself and let your personality shine. Have examples from nursing OR other jobs you've worked in. You definitely don't need to just give nursing school examples, I used many experiences from my past non-healthcare job. Don't forget to smile and ask questions at the end. Good luck, Cedars is an awesome place to work!

@CityofAngelsRN oh no I wasn't expecting anything specific (i.e. interview questions) because that's just not fair. I mean to ask how it's set up, how the interviews are (1-on-1, 1-on-2, etc)... but it sounds just like the second round interviews!

I ended up being interviewed by a nurse manager so that sounds pretty similar to what she/he asked me... Thanks for the response! It definitely is an awesome place to work, and I'm praying that I get to move on.

Do you know how many spots are usually available for the program? and how long it usually takes to hear back after the third round?

He/she also asked me in the second round what unit and shift I was interested in. I was somewhat surprised for some reason :o

For the September cohort there were about 26 new grads. From what I've heard they cut about 50% from each interview, including the third. I was also told by another new grad in our program that she asked the woman checking her in if she could be interviewed by a Tele manager if possible. They said no problem and she was eventually hired and put on a tele floor. Also, during my third interview, a nurse got up from the acute neuro rehab floor and asked if anyone wanted to interview with him for his unit. I saw one girl say yes, interview with him, but then she was put on another unit. So basically it doesn't seem to hurt your chances to interview with a specific unit, if they don't want think you're a fit for that unit, you will still be put on another unit as long as your interview scores were still in the top percentile. It took me about a week to get the email saying I moved on to the third interview, and about the same amount of time before I got the call offering me the job. If they offer you the job, you won't know what unit you will get until about one week before orientation and it is not necessarily the unit you interviewed for in the third. Hope this helps and keep us updated on if you get the third interview! Good luck!!!

Cool thanks for the information! I'll definitely keep everyone updated. Should hear back by the 22nd (fingers crossed).

joshuahf was nice enough to start our own thread for people interviewing at Cedars for the November 2014 New Grad Program:
