CA Nursing License New Grad Timeline

U.S.A. California

Hi all, I'm graduating in May 2016. I plan on getting my license in CA. I have a few questions. Can you send in your application before you graduate, and does this expedite things at all? Also, how much time did it take you (recent grads) from application to NCLEX date and then NCLEX to license? Not sure how it all works... Once you pass the NCLEX you still have to wait like 10 weeks after you pass to be licensed and able to work, correct?

Thanks guys!

Yes, you can send in your application (livescan, photo, etc) before you graduate and it is encouraged.

I sent mine 1 month prior, and some students sent it a few months before. However, a lot depends on when your school sends in their paperwork which I believe is the list of who is expected to graduate, and it is also some paper they had the class fill out.

Then you will get your ATT - I got my ATT about 2 weeks after graduation; some have gotten it sooner/earlier.

application - 11/17

graduation - 12/18

ATT - 12/31

Nclex-RN - 1/12

Some get their license # a couple of days and some takes a few weeks and you are allowed to work when CA Breeze posts your license

That's awesome thank you!!! Not sure if you can answer this, but I am looking at the application, and it asks for all previous transcripts/educational history from gen ed and nursing courses. I went to a community college for gen ed. I didn't get any sort of degree there. But it asks for the degree/program and for the name of the school it says "Name of Registered Nursing Program", but I was not in the RN program there. Super confusing... does anyone know what I should put in this section for my community college?

if you took any of the prerequisite courses (anatomy etc I don't remember) for the RN program anywhere else, I would put that school in and send that transcript as well , just to be safe. If that school doesn't have any related courses then you don't have to send.

I took most of my prereq classes at one school then did RN program at another , I sent both. There has been mixed answers from what I read but in case they do require it - they will hold up posting your license after you take your NCLEX until you resolve that transcript issue.

You'll need to list any schools at which you completed any prereqs, and you'll need to send in transcripts. I had to send in transcripts from 4 schools because I moved a lot.

Be sure to send in your app 4-6 weeks before graduation. I graduated 2 years ago after the BRN delay, and I got my ATT about 5 weeks after I graduated. Took my NCLEX a few days later, and my license posted within 48 hours.

Did you add all 4 schools to the application online where it says Educational History RN program? And it asks for the degree you got at that college... Even if you didn't get a degree there?

I went to 4 community colleges and didn't have to send in those transcripts (ultimately graduated from CSU east bay). I would check with the nursing program administrators at your school. They will have better answers about the specific requirements for your program.
