Hi my names Jeanette, and im starting DVC in august to take my prerequisites for nursing. any advice on how school will go? its my first time starting college and I'm a little scared lol . and also what kind of classes should i start off with? id appreciate it if you guys can help me out :) . thanks again. :redbeathe

I would start with English, Stats, and Chem 108. I doubt you'll be able to get into all of those pre-reqs if this is your very first semester. What are you planning to do- the ADN or BSN route?

Once you get some units/GE/transferable units I go w/

Chem 109, Anatomy, Nutrition in 1 semester.

Go w/ Micro in the summer if u can handle it and finish w/ physiology as your last class.

I would give u teacher recommendations but it will only get deleted... Use reviewum, com - b/c most of the reviews are pretty spot on.

There is also this club on campus called the pre-nursing society- I would check it out if you haven't research much into schools b/c they'll give you some info/bring in nurses to talk about their experiences and whatever. (kind of boring/unhelpful most of the time IMO but w/e you might be interested).

You won't be able to get into anatomy, physio, or micro. I'd get rid of chem 108 early so you can start 109 the following the semester. If I were you, I'd get rid of the all of the easy non-science pre-reqs as most of those also meet the GE requirements--i.e., stats, general psych, general sociology, speech, English comp etc. Try to wait-list the science pre-req when you can and take out our GE while you are waiting for priority registration. Yes, revieuwmm is very accurate imo...especially if there are 10+ reviews..an intro to bio course, like bio 101 w/o lab, may be helpful or take human biology (116?) if you were good in hs. The science pre-reqs takes a little time to adjust to them if you never really took any of them in hs, but I am sure you can do it. Ultilize the phyisical science building and the life health science room for tutoring if you need it. gl

Hello,

I just got into a nursing program and i did ALL my pre-recs at DVC. Its a great school...best bet is to get the general GED requirements out of the way... English/math/socio etc. Take chem 108 when you have a lighter load...a lot of people had issues with that. Micro isnt too bad...just know that the pre-recs for nursing really do get time consuming so make sure you balance them out... example..dont take anatomy with chem 108..bad idea. Its a great school.. The bookstore RIPS you off. Good luck with everything...its just the beginning!
