Suggestions needed

I will be a LPN licensed in Indiana in Jan. 2009. I attended a local community college with the same accreditation as MCCCD. I planned on finishing my Intro to Biology, Microbiology, and Chemistry here in Indiana. That would be all I need as far as classes are concerned...I may need some IV therapy since they don't specifically break it down into a class & include it in our Med/Surg lab. I want to get started towards my RN degree ASAP...what route should I take? Would it be easier or quicker to start at ASU. I REALLY do not want to deal w/ a waiting list. TIA!:bow:

As long as your credits transfer and you don't have a preference I would suggest taking your pre-reqs at a community college. Maricopa is in alliance with ASU and the classes will transfer over if you take them here for sure. Also, you can meet with an ASU advisor and they will tell you point blank where you are at and what you need to do to get accepted. ASU is very competitive with their point scale and the advisor will explain that to you also.

Community College is cheaper and I've heard the class sizes are quite smaller and that to me are really big motives to go to a CC instead of a university.

if you start as asu, you will have to start from the begining again; asu's program does not translate into cna, lpn, etc. if you start at a community college, you might be able to start w/ the last two blocks. i say might because they are re-writing the curriculum, an advisor would be your best bet to talk to.

in case you haven't researched it, asu requires alot of additional pre-req's such as pathophysiology, ethics, healthcare organizations, etc. that are not found at the community college level.

Just an FYI:

I believe those courses are offered at the community college level, I finished Patho last semester and am taking ethics this semester at GCC. I've also taken all the Healthcare classes that are required at GCC and EMCC too, such as Medical Terminolgy and Human Development.

do you have some "inside knowledge" about the schools changing the curriculum? it seems they have made alot of changes in the past few years....i wonder what else is going to change?

Your best bet is to talk to an advisor... They will be able to give you the most accurate information:D

I can't give you the complete scoop on the waiting list for Blocks 3/4 school by school. I do know that if there is a wait, its alot less than the normal wait due to attrition; but its school dependent. Talk to an advisor once you get certified. Is the state your coming from compact? 'cause that might make a difference come test time, if you're intent on coming down here.

I'll go ahead and tell you, before amburg does :p, you are eligible for the banner fellowship (research it on this board if you don't know what it is) to complete your last two blocks and the money owed is prorated for what they pay.

I KNOW, lol! I am still stuck in Indiana until I finish. I will consider taking the trip out there just to get school situated in advance. I REALLY appreciate all the info:wink2:
