I'm applying to NAU in the Fall ('10) and I am going to take FON 241 (Nutrition) at Rio Salado. Do I have to take the lab along with it for it to count as my pre-req??? It says "suggested" not "required for credit" or something so I'm wondering if it's mandatory for NAU or what??? :p

Well FYI to anyone searching for this answer - "NO" you dont have to take the 1 credit Nutrition Lab course.

Thanks for posting that follow up info. I just took FSN 154 at pima and then discovered it won't count for Pima or NAU (kicking myself repeatedly for that mistake). Eventhough, FSN 154 at pima and Rio's course use the same exact text and have the same exact course outcomes (arrg) . . . looks like I'll be taking it at Rio so NAU will count it. I was wondering if I had to have the lab too.

Yeah, I never got an answer so I just took a chance w/out the lab. Didn't need it. I don't know if you've taken classes at Rio Salado - but get ready for LOTS of writing. It's not "hard" it's just a lot of "doing." Be thorough. I went throught and printed off all the information for the class including the weekly information that had practice quiz questions (answer them before you print.) Also, you can use the book's companion site for help.

I actually liked the class. I learned a lot. I wish I could remember it all - LOL. Good luck!! :)

Thanks. I'm going to the info session the 4th and hopefully I'll get out of taking it. Since all NAU (flag) students are required to take is NAU's most basic nutrition I don't see why Pima's basic (that is exactly the same as RS) wouldn't count. Who knows. It's always been that way though. Maricopa CC classes were accepted at ASU and NAU and Pima CC classes for U of A. Keeping my fingers crossed. Thanks for the heads up on the writing. The one at pima was a lot of writing too. I have a BA in English so I can "BS" my way through most any class like that. I enjoyed it though for the most part. Just don't want to take it again.

It's the AZ Course Equivalency Guide. It will tell you how classes at community colleges transfer to the 3 AZ universities. I know at my local community college, they do not offer the nutrition class that would transfer as one of the ones that "count" for NAU. I had to take it at Rio Salado.

Update in case someone stumbles on this thread later. At least for fall 2011 ap to NAU trad. The Pima FSN 154 DOES meet the prerequisite for nutrition eventhough the course guide doesn't show it coming across for NAU's 135.

Nomad, I took nutrition through Phoenix college online last semester. It REALLY enjoyed it and actually learned quite a bit. I did not take the lab, but the instructor made us do the diet overview just like they did in the lab. It was 200 points but I actually enjoyed it.

The instructor was -----. The class was set up on a weekly basis; in addition, there was a mid-term and final. Rather than take it at Rio Salado, I would take it with ----- at Phoenix college online.

Thanks ab- I actually took it at Pima and won't need to do it at Rio after all. I was concerned it wouldn't transfer but it will.
