prerequisites

Hi I'm planning on starting the nursing program as soon as I can get accepted. I have completed all the prerequisites. I just need to do all of the application process stuff.

But I am just curious.

How well did you do with your prerequisites? and did they count your entire GPA or just the GPA of your prerequisite courses?

I think if they count only my prerequisites I have a B average, but if they count all of my courses against me then it's lower than that... If they even base some of it on GPA?

I'm looking to go to GCC for the nursing program, has anyone done that and if you did go there was it a good program?

& additionally how long did you have to wait to be accepted & start courses?

Thanks :)

I think that you will be just fine with a b average. I think as long as you have c's in all the prereq your ok. I went to GCC for my prereq's and would of loved to go there for the program but I got accepted into the Banner Nurse Fellows program at EMCC instead. GCC is a good school so I imagine their nursing program is exceptional. The wait list is long but you could probably work on some courses toward a bachelors while you wait. I was lucky and was on the wait list less than a month before I got accepted into the Banner Program but I know others that say they waited a long time. Supposely 3 semesters is what the nursing department says. Good Luck

Depending upon your current income I would consider one of the private schools too.

Before I was a Nurse I was making around 20-25k a year. Apollo was 40k for tuition (ALOT I know) but...I was able to work 1 year sooner going through Apollo than if I was to wait the year to year and a half on the comm colleges. I am now making up the difference in tuition in my difference in salary...plus I will have my 1 year of experience 1 year sooner.

Just something to think about.

For the Maricopa Community Colleges as long as you have the minumum GPA you get on the same list as some one with a higher GPA. At the schools where it is copetitive to enter it might be harder to get in with a low GPA.

Yeah, since you are applying to the community colleges, your GPA will be perfectly fine. As long as you didn't get any D's or F's, you will eventually get accepted. Having a higher GPA doesn't accelerate you, unfortunately, you just get put on the waiting list with everyone else. I heard recently that the wait list is up to 2 years now, but that's just hearsay. You could probably get by with your GPA at Grand Canyon University or any of the technical colleges, if you have the money to pay for them ($$$!), but probably not at any of the big three state uni's: ASU, NAU, UofA. Those three are very competitive.

Good luck!
