New nurse relocating to Phoenix: jobs to be found?

U.S.A. Arizona

Published

Hi all! -

I will be finished with my accelerated BSN in August and my husband and I are relocating to the Phoenix area, namely, Scottsdale. I know I'm a little ahead of myself but I often wonder about my first job as an RN and I'm especially concerned because I'll be starting away from my home region (we live in Philadelphia and many of the local and regional hospitals often come to our program first for new grads - even at a time where there's a bit of a hiring freeze in the area. The program has an excellent reputation here in Philly and I'm proud to be a part of it!). Can anyone tell me what the waters are like out there for brand new RN's now? I know I may have to work nights for a year or two to get my foot in the door - that's OK. I've heard that Mayo Clinic is a wonderful place to work but as a new nurse I certainly wouldn't hold my breath! And I do know that I may have to do some traveling within the valley if I'm living in Scottsdale. But what do you think? Will I have any trouble finding decent work?

Thanks in advance for reading and appreciate any feedback you have to offer!

You will have allot of trouble finding work as a new grad. Due to the numerous nursing programs, both ADN and BSN, there is a glut of new grads all vying for a limited number of positions.

That's what I thought - I'm a little concerned. I'm going to have to be very open minded about what I'm doing after graduation, I suppose. And also about shifts, salary, etc. Thank you for reading and responding!

I have at least seen some jobs posted for Mayo Clinic in the last month. They

have not been really hiring much or posting many jobs for at least a year. I

would check their website and at least start applying - can't hurt.
