NAU Fall 2013 Hopefuls

U.S.A. Arizona

Published

Hey all,

I just applied to NAU for the Fall semester. I figured I'd start this topic in hopes of meeting others who have applied and we can keep each other company while we wait for letters. Please join in on the conversation if you applied for NAU fall 2013 BSN OR if you're a current student and have pointers for us. Thank you, look forward to meeting some people!

Good to know! I was actually going to do my fingerprints tomorrow because my dad said they're back logged right now, what ever that means? But he's an educational administrator and deals with fingerprint clearance all the time, so I guess he would know... I didn't even think about the insurance taking time to get approved, thanks for bringing that up. I just want to have everything done well before June 14th, I don't want to loose my spot over a technicality. Also, when I read other threads, it kind of sounded like they give you more info when you turn in your contract? Did you experience this? I was thinking about taking it in tomorrow so I can get started on other things and hopefully get clearer information to answer more of my questions...

FINGERPRINT Clearance is a priority for you guys! I'm attending the accelerated NAU program and it is not a few weeks turn around on fingerprint clearance. Also, if you have not had Hep B shots get them started. Congratulations!!!

Make sure to take the CPR healthcare provider level course, not the layperson level. A few people in my cohort accidentally did this. And I agree, do the fingerprints asap.

Enjoy the first semester! It's a lot of reading and a lot of work but don't stress and enjoy it. Talk to people the first few weeks, these people will be your support for the next 5 semesters! Most importantly, take advantage of all clinical experiences. Some girls in my cohort would just sit back in clinical and let the nurse/cna do things and just observe. If you know how to do it, ask if you can! The only way you'll truly learn skills is to use them!

Good luck guys! I just finished my 1st semester of nursing school at NAU Flagstaff and I maintained my 4.0, so work hard and it can be done!

Thanks for all the feedback everyone!! It is very much appreciated. Is there anything you wish you would have known or done before the program, but realized it after the fact?

I just got my acceptance letter to the nursing program, Tucson campus. I'm very excited and would like to thank the current NAU students for all the advice. I already have my fingerprint card, a copy of my health provider CPR certification, and immunization records so that's good but... I recently turned 25 and lost my parents' insurance. I can't get health insurance through work until the fall. Anybody know if there's any student insurance available through the school? I'm worried about the copy of my personal health insurance card, seeing as I don't have any.

Hi kimaz13! I also got accepted into the Tucson program. It's nice to see another person from my cohort on here! As for insurance, I have no idea. I think your best bet would be to call and talk to someone and maybe they can "waive" it until the Fall. I'm pretty sure the reason for the health insurance is per clinical policy, I could be wrong. When you say "Fall", will that be before or around August 28th? If so, that might make it easier to work around. If not, I'm sure the staff can give you info on this. I find it hard to believe you're the first person to have an issue like this. Like I said, it would probably be best to call them and see what they can do for you!

There is student insurance available through NAU. It's the "major medical" and it's through Aetna. You can get it by semester and it comes out of your financial aid.

And yes - sorry, the fingerprints can take a while. I already had a fingerprint card for my job, so I got to just send in a copy of that.

I did my fingerprints today because I was all paranoid I wouldn't get the card in time. I called NAU to make sure I was doing it right before I sent it off. In that conversation I found out that you can just submit the yellow copy of the application to NAU by June 14th and then give a copy of the card when you get it. I was under the impression you had to have the CARD by June 14th, it says it can take 6-8 weeks, and June 14th is less than 8 weeks from now so I was worried. So if any of you were under the same impression, rest easy!

That's good to know. I just got my fingerprints done but haven't sent them out yet.

I sent mine last Thursday, I got an email telling me today that they had received my application and were now processing... So it may not take a ton of time like I thought it might. Oh well, better to be safe than sorry!

Katelynnj2, have you heard anything? Today was the deadline for turning in contracts, so it seems now is when they are going to be calling alternates. I've had my fingers crossed for you, so any updates??

Hey everyone =) I was just trying to find if the NAU Yuma cohort started any convos for those starting this upcoming semester and i stumbled on this thread! Glad to see there are 2 others on here starting in Yuma in August, can't wait to meet you!
