NAU Accelerated BSN 2012 cohort

U.S.A. Arizona

Hello all,

I'm looking for people who are in the same boat as me - already applied to NAU's fast track program that starts this summer and are anxiously awaiting news that won't come until the end of February/early March. I'm thinking that maybe if I can find others to comiserate with, the waiting won't be as bad.

A little about me: I'm an EMT living in Phoenix with a previous Bachelor's in Psychology. I work in an ER rather than on an ambulance so I have more extensive training because I'm under direct medical supervision. It's this experience that has taught me that nursing is the right path for me because I've never found anything to be more challenging nor more satisfying. The waiting for a response from NAU is so torturous because I am so ready to start my career.

Looking forward to hearing from anyone else who is out there...

Congrats! Was it email or postal mail?

Postal mail... I'm in Phoenix so mail would get here pretty fast.

That's what I was thinking. Congrats again, Meg! I assume you're going to go? Do you when does class starts and when is the first tuition payment due?

Orientation is May 14th and I haven't gotten anything about tuition yet... I suppose that will come after I send in my contract to attend, which is due March 7th.

Now to get some scholarships!

Hi there,

I've lurked on this thread for about a month but I just got my acceptance letter today so I thought I would post to see who else got in! This is the only school I applied to so I am going! Anyone have advice on housing in Flagstaff? Do NAU nursing students commonly room together? I'm in San Francisco now and it's so hard to find housing here, very competitive, esp for a good price. Wondering how much time to allow to find housing in Flagstaff. Also, I have microbiology in progress and I am getting out of it a week early to come to the orientation, so I am planning on coming not too long before May 14th since I can only miss a couple days of micro. Anyone know what tuition fees for the ABSN are like for out of state students?

~40k for tuition out of state for the whole program plus living. I live in Detroit and I'm waiting on my letter so we'll see. I'm hoping to pay around $400/month but I have no idea what Flagstaff has to offer, I'm only speculating. Congrats on your admission! What did you get in with?

Actually, I take that back. I faintly remember that NAU has some sort of reciprocity with the SW states so it might be a bit cheaper for a Cali resident. It's certainly in your own interest to investigate.

Hey sfchick, I got my first degree at SFSU! I miss the city so much but I think Flagstaff is going to be great...

I'm looking into housing though I vary between wanting roommates and wanting a studio. I don't know if there's going to be a on-campus housing option for us but I would like to live as close to school as possible. I'm also hoping that for clinicals we have to travel to that some of us will be able to carpool to cut down on gas costs.

ec7855, dude if I got in and your GPA and test score are around mine, then I think you should get accepted too. They would be stupid to turn down an awesome ERT.

I had a 3.48, 82 on exam and 34 months of ER experience. I haven't gotten the mail today but it sounds like I should be pretty competitive.

I had 3.8 in prerequisites, 90 or 92 on the Kaplan Test, and I have one IP (micro). I did my undergrad at UC Davis! I will miss San Francisco, but I am so excited for school. I love hiking/backpacking, so I am really excited to explore the area (if I have time).

So I know it's only two months away but I just want to start already! How is everyone else doing?

Hey everybody,

I'm in for May 2012. Very anxious to move over to Flag and start up! I figure this might be a good forum to meet some of my future classmates.

I'm coming over from Portland, Oregon. 28 years old. Male. Don't know a whole lot about Flag other than what people tell me (which is all good). I like to stay active outdoors, if anybody wants to trail run with me (or even trail-walk with me). And, I'm excited for my bar tabs to be cheaper, since Flag is at elevation :)

Anyway, I haven't a clue what I'm doing for housing. I would prefer a house over an apartment. I'm looking to live with maybe a few clean folks. And I'm hoping to bike to school, so within 3 miles would be preferred.

How about everybody else??
