May 2011 NAU accelerated nursing program hopefuls!

U.S.A. Arizona

Published

I'm finishing up some prerequisites and taking the HESI test on Tuesday for the January deadline. I'm a bit nervous! I wanted to see if there are any other accelerated program hopefuls applying for NAU this spring!?

Also, for the HESI, I heard that there is a&p, chem, bio, math, NO physics, but is there a grammar and a reading section?

Good luck to all in the application process!

Hey Mzungu, looks like our posts got edited - Oops! Do you have the private message ability? I am newer to allnurses.com so I don't have that ability yet but was wondering if you do. I didn't get a chance to respond to your post before it was edited.

Hey, no PM rights yet either.

A few other places you guys can check out that I've looked at so far are Woodcrest Apts and Highland Village Apts. They're located west of NAU South.

Christabella, that's great to hear we come from similar backgrounds! I actually quit my paralegal job in January when my hubby passed his NCLEX and got his RN. The job was great, my boss was wonderful, but the work itself was highly stressful and demanding, as I'm sure you know! I worked in corporate immigration law. Most people aren't familiar with what that is, but basically we file government paperwork for foreign nationals with highly specialized knowledge to come work in the U.S. It's a small niche really - we're talking about certain specialty researchers, doctors, scientists, engineers, athletes, etc. It was really interesting and I was fortunate to be able to meet so many wonderful people from all over the world, but it was the quality of life factor that did it for me. I worked at break-neck speed day after day that pretty soon the years just flew by just like that! I know that nursing will certainly be challenging and stressful in its own right, but overall I know it's going to be a much better fit for me! :)

I look forward to meeting all of you guys (RunMT, that includes you, so keep the faith - we all are pulling for ya!). My goal is to make the move somewhere around May 9th so that I at least have a few days to soak in the sights and get settled in before the craziness begins on the 16th!

Questions for everyone: do you guys apply to scholarship? And if you do, have done the application yet? How much do you think the accelerated program will cost in total? I am starting to worry about the cost now since flagstaff is not a cheap place to live.

Hey hey, I had to take a little break from thinking/writing/obsessing about nursing since I was literally losing sleep over it. I feel much better now, haha :) Thanks to all pulling for me...it's great to have the support!

A few things:

-I asked about tuition, and apparently they don't give out exact numbers just in case they're inaccurate, so you just have to go to bursars website and figure it out...don't forget the extra $1600. For an out of stater, I think it's going to run me about $25,000 for tuition, then I'm figuring about $15,000 for living expenses (I can be pretty cheap, haha)

-As far as scholarships go, I was advised to still apply for scholarships (due Mar 1st), but for accelerated students the date is "not completely concrete."

-An idea: I'm planning on being in Flagstaff to visit some of my boyfriends friends, and my friends in phoenix March 15-20th. Even though my admission is still on the fence, I'd still like to meet you guys! So maybe we can plan a weekend for those who are a driveable distance, or live in flag...cocktail/coffee hour or something. Also, I was thinking maybe we can get in touch with either some past students or an advisor to have some group Q&A maybe on that Friday the 18th (I'll know my admission status by then...or so they tell me) for our billions of questions! Shoot me a PM, or let me know if I need to PM you, and let me know if you're interested or have any other ideas, and I'll give you my email.

Hey guys! I've been accepted too! Now I'm trying to figure out what my living arrangements will be... I live in Oregon. .

Hi, Wegg, I am a in state student. So I am not sure how much it will cost.

Hey guys! I don't have the private message capability yet. If you can PM me, please do!

Run, great attitude! It's good to take a break from thinking about it so much! Wish I could meet up while you're in town but I'll be in Paris for spring break! I hope I get to meet up in May - I'm rooting for you!:)

Thanks to those who have responded to my PM! I'll wait a few days to let others get back to me. If you didn't get a PM from me and would like to be part of the email list, let me know!
