Which text books do you actually use at Gateway for Block 3? Sure adds up fast if you buy them all!

Thanks,

Your drug reference for sure!

You are suppose to have Perry maternal/peds (2/3) and Lewis med surg (1/3), and they assign stuff out of the math book but I just payed attention and did fine w/out math book.

If you don't have Perry and Lewis you can check out of the library or Wong 3rd edition, Dale (peds) and Maria (OB) gave us reading from both editions since 1/2 our class had a different book. Donna gave us very brief reading from Lewis, there is a clinical companion to Lewis that abbreviates all the essential facts.

I didn't do any of the assigned readings and got a 98% in the block w/ better books from the library. You can get Lippincott Pediatric study guide and maternal nursing made incredibly easy and will have much less reading

Thanks for the reply! Did you use any of the IV books? They have two on the list. I'm thinking my drug books on the iPhone will do.

You need the Phillips IV book for 1 day in lab, you can get that at the library too or the IV book made incredibly easy. For the most part Donna asked questions right out of powerpoints.

The IV med book you don't need at all, they give you all the info you need for your test and if you don't bring your book to class they lend you one.

Awesome! Thank you. You've saved me a bunch of cash!

How about for Block 4? Which books did you actually use?

That really was great advice, checker1981! After finishing block 3 I would definitely suggest only buying a used med-surg book and a used peds book. It's all you really need.

Just the med surg book for block 4. Suppose to read psych but it is way too much reading for a fraction of the class, you can get a review book at library that has enough information to pass.

I've heard that the respiratory section of the class(vents, etc) was the trickiest part. Any tips or suggestions?

I don't think it was tricky, I had ---- and --- for class. Maybe ------ is hard. Most of my class did poorly on cardiac test, I didn't find her test that difficult if you just do the reading.

She just wants to make sure you understand the basics. Like ventilator associated pneumonia, how do you prevent. And what does CVP measure etc.

Thanks, Checker. None of it has been bad so far, but I'll be sure to do that reading.
