Failed pre-req

U.S.A. Arizona

Hi guys, I'm planning on applying for GCU spring nursing program. I have passed all my pre reqs with A's and B's and my GPA will be around 3.5 when applying. That is if I can pass math. I failed it last semester and I'm scared that I won't get accepted. I'm planning on retaking it over summer and won't settle for anything below a B but, do you think that failed pre req will still hold me back from being accepted?!

Hi! From what I understand, they do take note of past failed courses, but I don't think it would be the deciding factor if you didn't get accepted

What has the nursing advisor told you?

Specializes in Pediatrics.

Yes, and it even says it on the website under Application Process for BSN Pre licensure.

GCU is going through a lot of changes. Some of these changes may be implemented next Spring 2016, when you would be applying. There will be new admissions criteria, so the rules on retaking classes or the courses required could possibly change. Also, they may have fewer spaces for transfers. They are in the talks of closing down all satellite campuses and only having the traditional program at the GCU main campus. So really right now, no one can tell you these answers, since they haven't yet said what they are doing. Everything is up in the air. They actually just completely cancelled the summer program. If I were you, I'd start looking into other options, just in case.

Oh wow really? Thank you, I actually just signed up for my last semester of pre reqs with them for fall... What kind of changes, like would you recommend to not go there in fall and try to follow some other plans?

Are you applying for the Fall or for the Spring? Fall is supposed to stay the same, but it will be a lot more competitive due to the fact that all the applicants for the Summer will be rolled over to the Fall. They have not yet finalized the changes for the Spring though. There are a lot of rumors, but nothing official.

I'm planning on applying for spring to AT Still

From what I have heard, there may or may not be an AT Still location in the Spring. No one really knows anything yet though, but GCU has said that in the Spring they may close the satellite campuses and only have the main one. Also, they may not have a fast-track program.

Why wouldn't my advisor tell me any of this?! Are you applying there? Thanks for the information

The advisors there are for the entire school, not just nursing specifically. They are out of the loop pretty much. I applied for the summer and then they cancelled it. You should read the last dozen or so pages on the GCU summer nursing thread. There is a lot of stuff about GCU that has been exposed. A lot of it is speculation, but it may give you an idea about what is going on.

Maycation, where did you hear that GCU was closing their satellite campuses?
