Deciding which University to get my BSN

U.S.A. Arizona

Published

I have decided to get my BSN but I am stuck on deciding which University will provide me with the best education. I am stuck between Arizona State University, University of Arizona, and Northern Arizona University.

I already don't like the fact that ASU offers hybrid or online classes.I would appreciate feedback from people who have attended these schools.

Thank you in advance.

Are you already an rn?

When you say that you "don't like the fact" that ASU offers online and hybrid classes - are you referring to BSN-required classes, or just classes in general?

If you are talking about classes in general, you should be aware that almost ALL state universities are going to offer some classes online, especially basics like English 101, Sociology 101, etc.

If you are talking about BSN-required classes, I am pretty sure that the only BSN program available online is RN-BSN.

If you are worried about attending a school that offers online classes because you don't want to attend a "degree mill," that is understanding, however, any of the state universities would be fine as they would not fall under that category. If that isn't what you're worried about, I apologize for the assumption.

Some other things to considered are climate, cost (although they are all about the same), class size, clinicals (how far will you have to travel), relocation expenses or if the U has a satellite campus that offers nursing, and cost of living where you will end up.

NAU is going to be a much different climate and scenery than U of A at the main campus. NAU offers a tuition guarantee but I don't know if it applies to transfer students, if you are one.

I believe you can check NCLEX pass rates on the AZBON website, but I don't know where to get to them, or I'd post a link.

Lots to consider when choosing a college. Also, like the above poster, are you already an RN? Are you a 2nd degree student? What other constraints do you have - job, children, etc?

No I am barely starting to take the basic courses that will allow me to apply to an RN program. I figure since I receive financial aid then I'd be able to get my BSN. I also want to map out the courses that I will need to take. In addition, I want to be explore my options and create a path for myself.

I just don't think I'd be able to learn in an online class. And I mean the nursing courses.

So I'm guessing I'd have to have my RN degree right?

I am currently married, but other than that I do not have any additional constraints. I am attending school full time at a community college, South Mountain College specifically. I'm also considering trying to enter the bilingual program that they have.

I am just exploring my options but I really do want to obtain a BSN.

Even though I don't like that ASU has the online courses, I am interested in getting my ADN and getting into their Maricopa County Community College ASU RN-BSN Program.

ASU has online courses, but they have more traditional courses, especially for the BSN program. You do not have to take any classes online, so if that is the only thing you're worried about, you needn't be. :)

I would speak with a counselor at the community college where you are at, and then also make an appt with some counselors from ASU, NAU, and U of A. Speak with them about requirements to get into the upper division nursing program, how competitive the process is, etc.

Are you living in Phoenix metro? I would seriously consider ASU if you are - unless you and your husband are prepared to move to the northern part of the state, or the southern part.

Thanks a lot for the information. We both decided to just go to ASU. We are both going to become registered nurses. So we are doing this together.

You and your husband? That is awesome! Congrats on making your decision.

I haven't been at ASU very long but if you have any questions I'm more than happy to give insight/help if I can. Feel free to PM me :)

Thanks, I will for sure PM you = ]
