U.S.A. Arizona

Just found out that I got into the accelerated program starting in October, finally!! Is anyone else starting in the fall??

Also- I was wondering if anyone was currently in GateWay's program that could tell me where you guys do your clinicals, what the schedule is like... etc. Any info would be great!

Hi All,

I just had a quick question for those of you accepted for this fall. When I go to the status page and look up info for Gateway Accelerated, it gives two seperate start dates one in August and one in October and two seperate graduation dates. How do they determine which one a student will get? Is it based on your time stamp, or some other factor?

Thank you

Crystal

I had to email them and ask them which one I was placed in. Or you can also contact the advisement center. I believe it is based on time stamps. The orientation for the August cohort is actually today.

Thanks for replying and congrats to all of you who made it this time. Hope to hear from you all again. This is one of my options and didn't quite understand how they determine who goes where, but I think the logical conclusion may be based on your time stamp.

So, how is the accelerated program? How is it different with the traditional 4 semester? Don't be stingy please tell how you think and what you have expected in an accelerated class to what you experienced. I appreciate any info from somebody who went thru this experience.

I was also wondering the same thing. Is the RN program at Gateway only offered in an accelereated format? I am in the LPN program, so I am looking into my options for block 3

Hi all! I'm planning to move to Phoenix Area after the summer has ended. I am wanting to know anyones experience or more information on the LPN program provided by the Maricopa Community Colleges. What are the prereqs? I have quite a few classes...

BIO101

BIO210(A&P 1)

BIO211(A&P 2)

BIO225(Microbiology)

CHM110(College Chem 1)

ENG101

ENG102

SPEECH205

MAT101(Beginning Algebra)

MAT102(Intermediate Algebra)

MAT120(Probability&Statistics)

PSY201(Gen. Psychology)

and then three courses for humanities.

Also what kind of rent will I be looking at for a nice two bedroom place(townhouse/house)? My budget is $1260 for rent. But hoping to find a place with a garage around 8 or 900 so utilities and such will all fit into my budget.

For the LPN program at the Maricopa Colleges, Gateway does not require any of the classes that you listed above but they do require that you take the nursing assistant class through them or that you are a licensed nursing assistant in Arizona. Estrella Mountain Community College has a skills center called Southwest Skills Center and I believe the only pre-req is that you have the BLS class, take the accuplacer test, and that's basically it. If you want to go on to the RN program though, you have to have the classes that you mentioned above to go on to the RN program from the LPN program. There is nearly a 3 year waiting list for the RN program, so the LPN would probably be your best bet if you want to start quickly. Both LPN programs require the hesi A2 test to apply, so you could go ahead and take that test. I know there are some private LPN programs, but I don't know much about them, and know they were thousands more than the program I chose at Gateway. The wait at Gateway is longer now (2 semesters) because they only have 1 cohort group per semester. Before they had a day and evening group, but they will no longer have both groups anymore, so they cut the number of spots in half starting this coming fall. So instead of 80 students per semester, they are only taking 40. I am finishing this Spring, and I applied in October of 2010. So I had to wait 1 semester to start. In the meantime, you could probably finish up the rest of the gen ed classes that you would need for an RN degree. Everything is listed on their website.

For 800-900, you should be able to find a house or apt to rent that is decent. Just be careful where you move, there are some very bad neighborhoods throughout the valley, crime, etc...Also, the utilities will be very low in the winter because you don't use much heat, but in the summer your electricity bills can be very high. My apt is small, around 1,000 square feet and my electric bill can be close to $200 in the summertime (I have a small dog so I keep it cool 24 hours a day)
