Taking a few minutes of down time at lunch. Like the rest of you, no doubt, seeing nothing but flu or colds for the past week. Been thinking about my fellow doc's office nurses and hoping you're holding up (and that you had your flu shot!)

(((hugs))) to all!

Here is a question for you office nurses....I am building a new relationship with a doctor's office because my long time GP retired....Do you and your doc's make it a practice never to phone in any scripts for your patients in the medical field? I am not talking about sleepers or tranqs.....I have allergies that often lead to sinus infections especially during the change of seasons or wet and warm weather and I have dealt with this for years,I know my body and I know when I am getting sick...THis new office WILL NOT phone anything in...no matter what....My old doc would do so and I only asked once a yr at most-never abused this professional courtesy....I am a bit put off by this.I am perfectly capable of assessing myself.I did not make an appointment when I started with the flu this week because I can't take an antiviral (talk about vertigo-I fall down a lot anyway-I don't need to take anything else to help me over,ya know?) Now that I am getting over the flu I am heading into sinus trouble.... Luckily I looked around and found a stash of stuff that I never threw away (yay-hycodan cough syrup in the back of the fridge) and the decongestants that I use for 2 or 3 days when I feel this mess coming on...I know that with the proper care I can prevent a full blown infection...and avoid the use of antibx.....It just peeves me off that the offic would make me drag myself in there during FLU season-I can just see the crowd in the waiting room-parting like the Red Sea in front of me...All I feaking wanted was cough syrup because the OTC was not cutting it and 3 days worth of Entex LA....Sorry for whining...I hate when I do that...sorry....I will speak to my PA when I have my next office visit about this-I may consider looking for another practice,too....One in which I am respected for my knowledge as nurse....Now youse guys tell me please if I am way wrong about this...........if I am I'll just suck it up.....

It's not my doctor but the pharmacy that will not except phone ins they want a script. My daughter needed her inhaler renewed we didn't need to waste the Doctors time same inhaler for 4 years Blah Blah well the pharmacy would not except a call from the Doctor to renew had to go to office get script drive back give to pharmacy and they said The college of pharmacys states they can not accept call in scripts anymore. I am finding this a work we take a PO and then the pharm calls and wants a original script from Dr. I can see with Narcs but Tyl that we monitor and give Big pain in the Butt....

As long as you're an established patient at our office, we call in Rx's all the time, with regards to other HC professionals....Our only requirement is to see you for an appt at least 1 or 2 times a year.....Boy, as nurses we are such BAD patients!!..I know I am!...I can understand why a Dr. might refuse to do things this way, I mean he doesn't know for sure what we've got and that really makes some of them uncomfortable, maybe you just need to find a Dr. that respects your skill and knowledge as a nurse and can therefore respect your knowledge of your own body??....As for pharmacies refusing call in Rx's, this must be a state to state thing cuz in WY we can call in just about everything except a few narcs, we can call vicodin, tyl #3, darvocet, vicoprofen, etc.....but like duragesic patchs, percocet, percodan, and a few others have to be written.....why would a Px NOT except a non-narc call in??.....especially if its not against the law??

My doctor when I walk in will say what do you need? He was willing to phone in the order the pharmacy was not allowing it. This is being enforced by the Canadian Pharmacys
