Jeff State Fall 2013 hopefuls

U.S.A. Alabama

Hi Everyone,

I just applied to The RN program at Jeff State and I wanted to get a thread going for other Fall 2013 hopefuls. If you're like me, the next couple months of waiting is going to be torture and I just thought it would be helpful to have somewhere to go to help pass the time with others in our situation :) I'm pretty optimistic and think I have a good chance, but you just never know! What kind of scores did everyone apply with? I wonder what the cutoff will be? I was told it could be late July before we hear anything...anyone hear something different? Also, who is applying for part-time and who is applying for full-time?

Look forward to meeting you all and GOOD LUCK to EVERYONE!

I'm too excited to be stressed out lol. This is the kind of stuff I enjoy reading about anyway. I know they say its going to be hard, but I'm ready! I like a little competition. What do you think?

I agree...I know it'll probably wear off sooner or later, but right now all I do in my free time is read and practice dosage calculations! I guess I'm a nerd, but I'm just really enjoying it :)

Me too! Dosage calculations are fun! Katty4982, have I spoke to you in class? Do you know which one I am? I'm tall, brunette, and pale (ha I have no idea how to describe myself). It's such a big class!

Does it bother y'all at all that she doesn't say certain words correctly and can't do math? Some people have speech problems I understand that but I have a hard time with having an instructor who you ask for help and she says I can't do math go ask a student. I thought that's what she was there for. If we have to do it ourselves why do we even have to come to class? I would love to not have to fight valleydale traffic! I do like how organized she is and she seems to care about us, but that just frustrated me and rubbed me the wrong way. We are paying way too much to not be able to get help from the instructor. We are paying her salary. It's her job to teach me not others students. Sorry off my soapbox now. Anyone else frustrated by this?

I don't think I've talked with you yet...although who knows! I'm really bad about introducing myself. I'll sit there and have a conversation w/ someone, go home and realize I never got their name or told them mine! I'll look out for you though next week :) I'm also brunette...really narrows it down, right? I try to sit toward the front of the class :)

Get used to it. It won't get any better. You will learn very quickly that there is a LOT of self study involved with nursing school and not just dosage calculations. There will be times where you pretty much here, I don't want to lecture tonight so go home and be ready for the test on Thursday. You will also very quickly learn that for the first few semesters anyway, the lectures do t really help. I don't need someone reading word for word from the power point. I can do that at the house. There will be things that frustrate you and things you will love. Be prepared for anything.

Yeah, but it will be worth it! I'm not going to lie, I learn most things by self study anyway

Aubgurl, does she do what she says as far as what's on the tests? For instance, she said our 1st calculations test will be on chapters 4&5. Is she only gonna do that or will she throw in drip rates and such? I just don't know what to expect. She wanted us to do the calculations packet and it goes way more into it than 4&5. I know you probably won't remember. I just mainly want to know if she is tricky or sticks to what she says. Thank you!

Don't worry. She isn't tricky. She does what she says she is going to do. That goes for dosage calculations and the med term test. I will say, KNOW YOUR ROUNDING PYRAMID! They are very very strict about this and we almost lost 3 people this semester because of it. Also, make sure if your answer is less than one, you have a leading zero. Ex. 0.4 NOT .4 We had a girl fail her second try because of this. They will be marked wrong. Good luck and don't worry:)

I'm in my 4th semester at the Jefferson campus. If anyone is looking for a room mate please email me. my email address is [email protected]. Good luck to y'all

Did you get in? I have a 178 I'm nervous. .
