herzing college lpn program

hi guys i recently just got accepted into herzinbg college lpn program for their january through december 2011 term. i got tired of waiting to get accepted into jeff states or lawson, or wallaces program and even though i had the grtades to hbe successfully accepted into wallaces or bevills or even lawsons and jeff states program in the summer or fall, i just figured herzing was quicker. can i get a opinion. someone who is already in the programs opinion would be great! but im open to all views:-)

You will like the program. I must say the school is small, but the teachers are real experienced and concerned. Please understand that you enrolling in an accelerated nursing program. The classes will be 8 weeks long and then you will be in another class. Personally I was a bit skeptical at first if the program was going to be hard or not, but so far so good...I have completed the programs 1st semester and my grades (although hard earned) are A''s and B's. Keep in mind that anything below a 76 is not passing and you will have to repeat the course.

So like how are clinicals... Where do u complete them at? Give me a typical day schedule for the program. I've already took anatomy and micro and ap2 and English and all that good stuff. I just haven't taken a computer class. But I'm going to take a Saturday class for that at Lawson. Would I be able to complete a Cna class I already signed up for previously to getting into herzings program? The cna program is from Jan to march and from 3-9 at night. Sorry I'm asking so many questions... I'm just excited!!

Since you have already been accepted I will assume you know the LPN program costs $22,000. If you decide to get your RN you will have to go back there and pay another $25,000, because no other school will accept a transfer from Herzing. I know this because I checked when I was shopping around for a school to attend. I was finally accepted into Bevill St and my RN will end up costing me approx $12,000. If you decide to continue your education and get your BSN, you will have to retake every core class you take at Herzing, because once again, nobody accepts their classes.

Thanks! I went to my finacial aid appointment today and it was 18,000 for me. And I decided against it. But your wrong on not being able to go for your rn bride at another school. U will be able to but classes like math and biology won't transfer. But since I was transferring from lawson mine would have atleast. That price tag was just to much for me and my mom to swallow! I'm trying for Neville in the fall! It's so funny u mentioned that! How is that program! I am working with a b in 201, a c in 202 and a b in 220. Do u think I need to take my 202 over to get into bevill? Or is it fine! Oh yeah I have a 72.7 on my compass. Which equals a 109.5

I would highly recommend you got to school for an RN rather than an LPN. Your job prospects will be much better. It is only two semesters longer, and the pay is much better also.

To get into Bevill you will have to take the new TEAS-V test. They look at your overall GPA. I would want at least a 3.0. I would also choose any campus other than the Sumiton Campus. The Sumiton students are treated like the red-headed step children of the nursing students. They have some good teachers, but they also have a couple that should not be teaching. One thing that is very frustrating is if you miss a test question, that you know you got right, and another teacher agrees you got it right, nothing will be done to change it. Many in class had a problem last summer with a teacher and one of the senior teachers told me personally that she had no business standing in front of a class trying to teach anything. I am sure you will get differing opinions on this, but I am being as honest and upfront as I can.

I'm currently at a 2.75. I'm retaking my 202 to try to get a higher grade and I'm also doing cna classes and hoe not the only kne who has told me that about beville. Ive heard pros and cons about the sumilton. My dream school is Wallace though! Or even jef state. Lawson I am NOT interested in. Based on my grades I told u earlier (b=201 b=220 c=202 72.7% on teas v test=109.5) do u think I have a string application for the fall? I'm sorry to ask u so many questions but they have absolutely NO information on there program like other schools do and I rarely hear about them so it's good to finally catch up with someone who does!

From what I understand what you have for a gpa at the time of application is what they use. The application deadline is Apr. 1st, so you will not have time to complete the spring semester to increase your C in 202. If you have already taken Eng 101, speech, psych, etc., those grades will also be factored in. I already has a BA and they still used my overall GPA. I felt that was unfair since I was competeing with people that may have had 0-35 college hours.

Bevill has a good reputation in the area hospitals, so they normally get some pretty good clinicals. Sometimes you have to be proactive though. I have one person in my class that only did clinicals at Walker Baptist for the first three semesters. It is better if you can do some clinicals in a more advanced hospital. It also helps with networking, getting your name out there for future employment. I will tell you up front, almost everyone wants to do clinicals at Childrens, so they usually only allow about 12 per semester. I had no interest in Childrens so it didn't bother me. I like kids, but I have no interest in working at one of the lowest paying hospitals in B'ham.

I would recommend applying to all nursing programs. That will increase your odds. When I started we had about 70 students, out of about 200 applicants. Just on my campus.

Nursing classes are very different that normal college classes. You must learn to think critically. On your tests you will have 4 answers, and more than one will be correct, you just have to choose the one that is more correct. You will also have to learn to teach yourself much of the material. I would recommend taking an online class or two, if you have not, to get into the habit. The students that seem to do the best are those with a medical background, LPN, CNA, or such. Also those that do not work and live with their parents. It is the most time consuming thing you will do. I have people asking me all the time if it is hard, I tell them it is not as hard as it is time consuming. For every hour you spend in class you will need to spend about 8 studying. I look at nursing school as my job.

Well I planned in taking a mini term which would bbe finished by march 5...hopefully I could pull a "a" off!
