Hey guys,

I am a out of state student looking to go to Auburn for a 2nd BSN. I understand they no longer have any accelerated program, but I am still interested in attending there.

Anyone who is in the program, or has any knowledge of it beyond the website information, can you share your thoughts? How competitive is it? The site says a 2.5 GPA is the requirement to apply, does that mean someone with a 3.1 would have a chance? :confused: It's easy to make a low application requirement to get more applicants (and money). If it means anything, I am a male applicant (though I hope that isn't a huge boost to be honest)...

I'm curious...what questions did they ask you in your interview at Auburn? Do you know if everyone is asked the exact same questions? What do you think constitutes a "rocking" or successful interview?

I think there were 3 or 4 different rooms with different "judges" in them and the room you got assigned to determined which questions you got. Each room had a different set of questions. They asked 5 questions and there were 5 students in the interview at a time. They waited for everyone to answer so you didn't really have to "compete" except maybe to get your good answer out before someone took it.

1. Why do you want to be a nurse? (Or why do you want to go to nursing school? It was something like that...)

2. Tell me about a time you had to work as a team.

3. Tell me about a time you had to manage conflict.

4. Where do you see yourself in 5 years? 10 years?

...I can't remember the other one right now. If I think of it, I'll let you know. From what I heard from classmates, all of the questions were standard ones you'd find on any list of nursing job interview questions.

Definitely be confident in whatever it is you say. And smile! The "judges" were very friendly and made it pretty easy to relax. I have a problem with my voice shaking so I regretted that, but what can ya do? :lol2: Don't be afraid to take time to think of a good answer. If you don't have one right away, let one or two other people answer while you gather your thoughts, but be sure to make your answer stand out from those that went before you. Just my :twocents: :)

From the few classes I went to at AUM before I dropped their program, I was really impressed. The faculty was amazing and they seemed super invested in their students' success. Oh, and the lab technology was some of the best I've ever seen. I've got two friends still in the AUM nursing program and they said that the program mirrors Auburn's. Their biggest complaint is the same as the students that are at AU: the driving distance to clinicals. The biggest difference I noticed between the AUM nursing class and the AU nursing class was the diversity of the students. The AU nursing class is 90% just your average college students. The AUM nursing class had more second degree students, older second-career students, etc. I know of two students that lived in Columbus, GA and commuted to AUM every day, so I don't think being out-of-state is a disadvantage at all.
