Hi! I have an interview with med staffing on Wednesday for PRN RN in two NH's close to where I work.

The pay is $35.00 an hr. I have worked in LTC for almost 6 months and am comfortable with this type of work.

I can do G-Tube feeding, hang IV ATB, do insulin, dressing changes. etc.

I am concerned because I won't know where the supplies are and I won't know policy.

How did you learn policy and locations of supplies?

Thanks!!

Failure is NOT an option!!

Just ask. 95% of the staff I meet are very willing to help, and most recognize that if you weren't there, they would totally be scrambling.

Good luck!

Well stated! Just ask. One thing I learned quick as an agency nurse is you have to ask and cannot be afraid to ask anything for the exact purpose that you dont know their policies and procedures, location of supplies, residents and their specific routines etc. Remember what they always said in school...the only stupid quesiton is the one not asked and if you dont ask you will never know! Good luck!!

Hi, I've been an agency nurse for past 6 yrs. while in grad school. Pay rate of 35/hr is quite good for LTC. Working on a perdiem basis is difficult at first when trying to find where supplies are kept, how things work, etc. Your best bet is to continue to accept assignments in the same facilities if possible, and don't be bashful to ASK! You might find a little list helpful. Perhaps they will let you come a little early for orientation (and---maybe your agency will pay you also). Many agencies in the country now offer health insurance and other types of benefits. Of course, one must usually work at least 30+ hrs./week. Good Luck!
