Hi!

I will be starting a journey for my DNP-acute care nurse practitioner program this August.

I'm US trained nurse and have a year experience as a community nurse.

My question would be what kind of visa can I apply to get a green card? After I receive my NP license with doctorate degree...

I thought this may be a good topic since DNP programs are growing in all over the states.

I think EB2 would work, but I just wanted hear from you all :)

Has anybody received a GC with NIW waiver?

Thank you in advance!

Job will have to meet EB2 just having qualification isn't enough

Thank you for the reply!

The job you are referring should require the person (RN or NP) to have certain degree in nursing (most likely the higher degree) and a license to practice, am I understanding right?

If so, is that person (who is applying for the job) usually need to have certain years of experience?

I heard that it is either that person have 5+ years of experience or masters degree or higher degree to be qualify for the EB2

The job has to be DNP or requires a masters and may or may not require experience but some of that will depend on job requirements and then they will have to meet EB2 requirements when they file your application.

Oh I see!

Thank you :)

You do not need experience for EB2. All NP's qualify for NP since a Masters is required to practice. You don't even need to have a DNP...just a Masters level NP. But you will need to find an employer to petition you for the I-140. Most countries are current in EB2 except China and India.

Oh really? Thats the info I was looking for, then!

Yes i heard about China and India have to wait little longer than other country citizens.

So, do you know how long does it take to get a GC with EB2? Some says 3months and others say 6+ months...

We contacted an attorney earlier this year. We were quoted 3-4 months. But it can vary when you are ready to apply. Since NPs also qualify for schedule A and can avoid the labor certification process it makes it a little faster. Are you ready to apply or just starting school? We decided to wait out our EB3 case since both processes would roughly happen around the same time and since we already had an approved I140 and pending I485 it saved us money to not pursue EB2. However, I did find a lot of interest and despite not looking much yet due to my immigration case. You will do well if you are pursuing a DNP as an acute care NP. I am a FNP. I have not decided yet if I will go for the DNP yet. At this point I have been in and out of school the last 10 years and need a break. Good luck!!!!

Mine took 9 months because of two back and forth RFEs (request for evidence). This through AOS processing.

How about the Philippines, is EB2 still open for the Philippines?

Do a google search for US visa bulletin and you can check yourself

The EB2 Philippines category is current as per the May 2013 bulletin.

But you would have to be current at the time you are ready to apply.

You can check the Visa Bulletin around the 10th of every month to see how things change. This months bulletin can be viewed at:
