USA ADN to Canadian LPN equivalency

World Immigration

Published

Hello, (this is my first post so i apologies if I'm doing some thing wrong)

I'm currently a student at junior at UT going through the Pre nursing school stuff for BSN. Today i found out that i will have another three semesters of pre nursing before i can officially apply since I'm missing my A&P1 A&P2 and pathophysiology and concepts of nursing. So long story short i've been in school three years and i have about three more to go for my bachelors due to vary poor advising. So, i'm in between withdrawing and getting my ADN. The issue is i know in Ontario the BSN and proper test scores and paper work will make you a nurse. But will a ADN from the states make you a LPN? assuming after working for a year and properly going through immigration and paper work.

I do plan to get my bachelors through an ADN to BSN with in my first five years out.

thank you,

Sorry again if i break a rule or do something wrong this is my first post. I've seen this board many time and decided i should join.

LPN may be difficult for immigration but really up to the college to make the decision on ADN equalling LPN

I saw one person got through with it on a earlier now locked board post '02-'03 ish i know times change so i figured i'd ask. my idea behind it is that the college would not clear a ADN as a nurse but will let me be over qualified as a LPN. My idea then is to get some schooling while working then finally get my bsn.

what would you recommend the order of paper work start? clearing it with the college first, then doing a skilled worker with express entry?

thank you for the speedy reply

Once you graduate you could start the skilled worker and check out how many points you will have. That will work out whether you need employer or not. If you do then LPN to be honest isn't in short supply in NS so may be difficult in finding employer willing to work with you, same could be said for other provinces please note I said difficult not impossible. Going through NNAS and the college may take a while so would suggest starting the process as soon as you can once you graduate.

Who knows what the demand will be like when you graduate just know at the moment in NS LPN's are plentiful and may be the same for elsewhere in the country

If your goal is to work in Ontario, than it is recommended that you attend a Canadian nursing school, it will be a more direct route to obtaining an Ontario nursing license and will be less expensive and less time consuming in the long run.

A Canadian LPN course is strongly grounded in the old two year RN diploma with additional university credits in English, Sociology, and Psychology.

I doubt you would be an over qualified LPN. I know several with various degrees. Two teachers, a Marine Biologist, and a History degree can all be found on one floor where I work
