UK Student looking for New York elective placement

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone would be able to offer me some advice, i'm a second year student nurse who is looking to carry out my elective placement in New York (USA). I am finding it difficult to know where to start or how to make initial contact with any potential health organisations out there and was wondering if anyone could offer me some assistance.

I would appreciate any help.

Thank you.

I think you will find it hard for a couple of reasons but I think main one would be finding a hospital willing to do this due to high competition US students have. You could try your student advisor and see if they have any suggestions or alternatively contact universities that do nurse training and see what you can do. Then you will need to sort out a visa allowing you to do this in the US, may want to consider elsewhere

I would go to your university's international department, they can arrange the exchange within the universities. My son was placed for 6 months in the UK and a student from the UK was placed in the USA. The universities take care of all the financial arrangements as well as the VISAs. The school has to make the placement you will not be able to make any arrangement with a hospital.

Hi StudentLex,

Did you have any success? I am also a UK student in my second year hoping to do this next year, would love to hear how you got on.
