To Filipino Nurses in NEW ZEALAND? Have questions please..

Good day!

I am considering trying my luck as a nurse in New Zealand.

Can anyone here help me and tell me what to expect in the 2-3months competency assessment? Is it really like attending formal school where you have lectures, exams, reports? Anyone ever failed that??

How long does it take to get a working visa after registering with NCNZ, provided of course one passed the assessment? How long does it take to get permanent residency?

How do I find a good consulting agency that can help me with the processing? Or dont I need one anymore?

I also would appreciate it if Filipino Nurses can share their experiences in NZ. Was the transition hard? How do you like the weather?

Any practical tips about starting my application to work as a nurse there besides looking at the NCNZ website?

Thanks a lot in advance!

ei, thanks for this.

i just have a few questions, anyone please help...

is any hospital experience needed first before undergoing the competence assessment? if i'll do it the processing myself, can you give me a ballpark figure of how much it will cost me? what about the housing, will we also personally look for a place to stay there? is cg also required? thanks....

hi ! you don't need to have hospital experience to do your competency study here in nz and cg is no longer required just ielts of overall bond of 7. please remember that after the study around 6 weeks you have to look for a permanent nursing job contract before your student visa expires in just 3 months.pls be inform that 95% of the govt. hospitals does not accept nurses without hosp. experience & most nurses that will be represented by some filipino agents now in nz ,unless otherwise you got a good hosp.experience.nursing homes are the one that will accept you even you dont have a hosp. experience but be smart and knowledgble with the interview.it has been a big issue here nurses that has been victimized financially and with doubtful contract from most filipino agents here.pls.pls.filipino nurses dont be lured by the sweet words of agents that will represent you here in nz.the competency assessment course fee cost like 4000nzd.bording house weekly rent cost 100-150nzd bedspacing.food and other expenses cost you 2000 plus before you can land a job.nz is a very high cost of living country.pls you dont have to have an agent to enroll yourself to any sch. here.everything that you need to know coming to nz for nurses, you can find this in the nursing council of nz website.in any sch that you intend to be enrolled they will help you from your arrival & your residence to stay, they will welcome you and guide you every step of the way.you dont need an agent to come to new zealand.nurses with hosp. experiece has the potencial to be easily accepted in any hosp. if you are not represented by an agent.instead paying those agancies in the phil.save your money into your journey coming over. remember your agent will promise you fr a free house to stey, free food, and to a lot of promises, at the end of the day you will still pay them back that is aside to their finders fee fr the hosp but most from the nsg homes.you dont have to sign any contract, it is here that you will find yourself hooked up with an agent.once nurses are already here you can find guidance and support from the filipino community.start doin your documents today and kia ora to new zealand !:welcome:

You need to have an employer permanent contract before the immigration will give you a working visa.Make sure that you have to have a complete medical, cxr, mrsa, blood test before you come to NZ.its very expensive here to do that and it is a must from the school to have that requirement before you can start your competency.Cheers.

You can find a job easily in the hosp. if you have a hosp experience, and its easier to apply in the nsg homes if you dont have a hosp experience.Hosp has a bigger salary and with better benefits for the nurses.

Hi AngelNZ. What is the minimum hospital experience required? If a nurse doesn't a have the minimum required hospital experience but have worked in other disciplines (i.e., school nurse, company nurse, clinical instructors, private nurse, etc.) will it be easy for him/her to find a job in a hospital in NZ? What are the advantages & disadvantages of working in a nursing home as opposed to working in a hospital? Can a nurse work in a hospital after acquiring nursing home experience in NZ?

Please forgive me for asking too many questions. Thanks in advance.

i am very interested to work in nz too. but i have an agency that could help with only a budget of about 140,000 pesos only.

most of the nurses i knew have left and are now chatting with me and telling me ...it is a nice place.

i want to know though...why the words " if you have money , than go for the agency thing"? does this mean that if we donnot link our application with an agency...this would still be possible?...and spend only less than 100,000?

to nalene and bonsai,

To be able to give someone a Personal Msg. (PM), one only have to click the username of the member you want to give a PM or an e-mail. When you click the username once, a menu will open up and ask you what to do. You can view the public profile, send a PM or e-mail, find more posts of that particular member or add him up in your buddy list.

A member can choose to receive or not receive an e-mail if she doesn't one to be e-mailed by members here but if he choose to, he has to go to the User CP option found on the upper left side of the webpage (near FAQ), click on it and then go to the Settings and Options menu and then go to the Edit Options and select to allow e-mail to be received coming from Admins and/or members. Of course, you have to furnish a valid e-mail add. in the Edit E-mail and password option as well.

For more details on how to learn the diff. options here at allnurses pls. go to this sub-forum:

All questions on the how-to's should be posted there. Thanks.

Hello. I have the same queries. Anyone who could help us, please? :sniff:

Also, regarding the agency thing. It's very possible to process the NCNZ papers without the aid of an agency. I did. Just check out their site (link posted somewhere in this topic), print out their application pack (or have it mailed to you), and make sure you have everything listed in the checklist sent to them. I received the confirmation letter around a month after I submitted the last of their requirements. If you think you could do all the legwork yourself and can find yourself accommodations when you get there, then I'm pretty sure you don't need an agency.
