One of my friend told me he has to go for SEC ( 2x subjects ) and he has 4 yrs experience. The other friend preparing for FEB CRNE exam and she has no experience , just graduated. Does it make sense ?? Does anybody know how do they access IEN application ? Any feedback.

Standards can be found in each country in the world, we in Germany have our own nursing standards, as well as Canada has.

All countries want to protect their public (patients) and want to guarantee a safe, competent and high quality care.

If you decide that you want to live and work in Canada, than you must apply to Canadian standards!

I have gone through CRNBC's application process, did my SEC assessment in general nursing - and CRNBC's final assessment was very fair.

I was asked after my assessment where I think I would need supplementary education or training - the result is that I have to do only one supplementary workshop, including the specific area I gave feedback on!

After successful completion I will achieve my provisional registration.

I don't know a single country with an easy registration process, obstacles can be found everywhere, don't blame the Canadian System for your personal experiences.

You decide which route to follow. I will stay in Germany, working and earning money, till the day I will find empolyment in BC, even if I have to travel to Vancouver for SEC or supplementary courses, which of course means additional expenses!

CRNBC warns IENs against moving to BC without a full understanding of the requirements that must be met to in order to become registered. What factors contributed to you moving to BC without a full understanding of the registration requirements?

[color=deepskyblue]wastedyearsofprime, i, too am an ien. at first, i thought everything would go well with my application, i never really entertained the thought of undergoing sec as i have a classmate who never did it and was given eligibility to write the exams, i even had more rn experience. then i got the letter telling me to do sec. i was so disappointed and thought the same thing, blaming the system and all, at how they are making it so hard for iens to register.

then the day came when i did the assessment. that's when i realized how important it is. i was able to evaluate my self and realized i lacked in some aspects to be considered competent and that's when i knew i needed to do refresher courses. after the assessment, my confidence level went so low that i felt so ashamed of myself.

sometimes, we become so proud that we only want to see things happen the way we want it to. i have read some of the responses, and it's true that there's no perfect system as there is no perfect self.

in the end,

all things work together for good
, so chill out a bit.

Hi Nursingmom2010,

i have read through all the posts this far and hope you can be the one to ask for advice on how to go about preparing for the SEC assessment. I just received word that i have to do it in all specialties and the truth is that i have been working for years in post critical care and have left all my knowledge of the specialties behind. What should one expect and how does one prepare? Hope you have the time to write back. Thanks.
