Obtaining permission to sit NCLEX exam confusion

i am trying to get "permission" to sit the nclex exam, the board says i need to

obtain an official course-by-course evaluation report from a board approved foreign education evaluation agency

plus

have all certification documentation sent to the board office directly from the board approved foreign education evaluation agency

does anyone in australia have any idea who this would be? the ahpra?

thanks

You have to contact CGFNS (that's the first step). After completing their requirements, CGFNS will process the evaluation and forward those information to your choosen State BON. Then, the BON will then decide if you're allowed to take the NCLEX-RN. The 'permission' is

called ATT (Authorization To Test).

The BON website should list approved companies, CGFNS is usually one of them. CES is CGFNS report and you need to arrange with your nursing school/university to send copy of transcripts to CGFNS and they will do a breakdown and see if you meet state requirements. Seen several Australian nurses have similar issues as the UK and not have enough hours in Obstetrics/Paeds

What happens if the university doesn't teach enough midwifery or paeds?

What a crock that out of all the companies who can also check international university credentials, the only one the registration boards "allow" is the CGFNS who are also $130 more expensive than others. Can I get in on the action and get a cut too? $380 is an absolute joke.

If that's the case, the BON will inform you that you don't meet the requirements to be eligible for licensure.

If you are short of hours either/or clinical theory then you will not get permission to sit NCLEX. You will be required to find an acceptable course that offers both and pay to do the course/s

Ridiculous

I have already looked up the local university and asked if I would be able to take two midwifery subjects to complete this year. This is not going to be easy as I work full time and are completing another Post Graduate course at same time whilst also looking after a 2 yr old.... God help me! lol

Sorry you're finding the standards and requirements for US licensure annoying and inconvenient. I know there have been some posts on this site in the past about nurses from other countries having difficulty getting licensed in Australia, so your potential difficulties are not something unique to the US. Different countries have different models of nursing education and licensure, and it's not always simple to get licensed in another country.

Why is it ridiculous for a country to expect you to meet the same standards as any other nurse holding a license in that country?

There is a difference I believe. :nurse:

When you first graduate as an RN it is expected that some nurses work in different specialties until they find the one they love and want to base their whole career in and will maybe change between 3 or more, BUT I have worked in Critical Care for 11 yrs and have my Masters in it also. I am also considering doing a PhD in it also so it shows I have no intention of ever leaving it.
