Hi everyone! It has been a while that I have not posted here. I just need an enlightenment regarding bridging visa which is granted while waiting for a substantive visa. I am currently offshore, waiting for my invitation for my subclass 189 and I am planning to lodge my papers in Australia soon. I would like to know if it is possible for me to acquire a bridging visa with working rights once I lodge my PR onshore even if I still have a valid business visitor visa which will expire on Dec 2014? I have read about the bridging visa B but I am not certain if it's the one that has to be granted. Your answers will be very much appreciated. Thank you!;)

Hi everyone! I would really like to work in Australia since my Aunt lives there. But I really don't know what to do first. :( I am really out of track that's why I registered here to find help from you guys. Can I ask help on what to do first? I just recently passed the board exam this last May 2014 and currently working as a staff nurse. I hope someone can help me. :D thank you!

Hey @DreamCatcher/Franz.

1. If you are waiting for an invite from the Immi and have not lodged the visa yet and you are offshore you cannot receive a bridging visa.

2. If you lodge your visa onshore you would immediately receive a bridging visa A notification together with the tax receipt of your payment for your 189 application even if you have a valid visa sub 600. However, the effect of the visa would not kick in until the expiry date of your tourist visa. so that would be a 3 month wait for it to take effect. Bridging visa B is only given under certain circumstances and i have tried to request but was denied since i have no urgent business returning home. For example your entry date is on Nov.1 '14 your exit will be Feb 1' 15 so your BVA will take effect on Feb 2 or 3 depending when it shows in VEVO just look out for the dates. Hope that helps.

Woooooww!!! Congratulations and Thank you for answering my questions! I am so happy for you. I wish I will also have the same luck.

Guys, I have some questions:

Do I need to file for a new Au police clearance for the 189 visa?

I have an Au police clearance issued October last year. I am just not sure if they want an updated one? (or the Police Clearance and NBI is enough?)

I have a dilemma. I read that I can have bridging visa once I filed for the SI189 onshore. I am presently in the Phils and on a Subclass 600 visa expiring at the end of February. I am expecting to receive Invitation for SI189 by January based on the timeline of the previous posts.

Should I just go back to AU and wait for the Invitation For SI189 there? ANd file my visa onshore? Hoping that I will be granted bridging visa while waiting for the result of my application?

How long does it take to have a result ofr SI 189 after filing it?

Thanks for the kind people who would take time to answer my questions. Godbless!!

Hi Mark! I also know that it's you. :) I guess @xzebryx2000 have already told you about my concern. Hehe! Thanks for the enlightenment. If that is the case, then I think it will be better for me to just wait for my PR here in the Philippines since I'm already planning to lodge it this October. By the way, congrats to your new job! Indeed, it's a whole lot easier to find one when you have Full Working Rights, however for those who are still aiming for sponsorship, never lose hope coz I know some lucky ones who were sponsored. If you have enough funds, it's better to apply onshore because some employers prefer to interview their applicants in-person. :)

Can you guys please specify the step by step procedure in applying for PR modified skills? Abd have you heard of RPS migration? Is it true that they can get their AHPRA nurse applicants a PR visa after 7-8 weeks of lodging the requirements? Thank you

Just for technicalities, there is no such thing as PR Modified Skills. It's actually two separate process. The ANMAC Modified Skills Assessment is one of the requirements for PR application. It's for those with AHPRA registration. Alternatively for those without AHPRA registration, they can apply for a full assessment, although this is not applicable to all.

I have heard of RPS migration. One of my friends got a PR through Victoria State Sponsorship and was processed by RPS. He's affiliated now with RPS. But I don't know how they work, or what their track records are. But I doubt they can get you a PR visa after 7-8 weeks. Published processing times depending on your visa category is from 3-6 months.

Thank you iamnomad. How long does it take for your friend to get the PR visa?

i'm not sure. I know he finished his bridging program around July 2013. After that I had no contact with him. Then just recently I found out that he got his PR. During my PR application (June 2013), the processing time was 1-2 months. That was the quickest I have ever seen and was not repeated after that.
