Im doin great, thanks. It's been 7 months now since i started with my RN job here in Victoria. So far so good. Great employer and colleagues. My manager is the best. I get rotated everywhere. I was mainly in PACU (and a little bit of circ) when i was in the Phil but now I get the chance to experience Admissions, Day Surgery Recovery, main theater Pacu, theater, Anaesthetics, and that's what i love about it.. I grow professionally and becoming more efficient.

hello fellow nurses :)

I was just wondering with regards to the SKILLED VISA 189 (Independent) Application, does it matter if I will apply onshore (Aus.) or offshore (Philippines)? Is there an advantage on "processing time" if I will choose either of the two?. Thank you so much in advance. :)

Note: The person had already received a "letter of invitation" from immigration and had also received the letter of eligibility from ANMC.

Jems, how about you?? I work in a public hospital and I was told to wait for 6 months until 1 year before they could sponsor my visa for PR. I've started applying for ANMAC skills assessment though, and I could still apply for PR independently given that I am eligible. I'll still have to wait after 6 months and see how it goes with my employer, nevertheless. What are your plans?

Same here. I work in public hosp too and from what ive heard, my employer sponsors if you're already working for 1 year with them.but i heard too that there's 1 staff before waited for 2 years and still they didnt sponsor him. I am also starting to process my anmac but then unfortunately they decline my payment which opposites my bank transaction because it appeared that the payment really went through. So i am now waiting for their investigation. My plan is according to what God's plan for me. If i can do the pr application on my own,i will. Lets hope and pray for that.and yours too

I couldn't agree more! I, myself, am taking things one step at a time. I'm very happy with my job and I'm not really rushing to switch to permanent residency as I have 4 years on my 457 visa. Are you employed at St.George? How are things there?

Nope, not with St George. Are you? There's only 2 public hospitals here in ACT. I also have 4years of my 457. The thing why i wanted to be a pr as soon as possble is that the healthcare system here is very much expensive. I just recently got sick and i spent much because i didnt have the medicare. But still, it's all in God's perfect time.

pogzRN, jems,

I highly recommend that you get your PR as soon as you qualify. Immigration rules change every year, usually July, and it could get harder and harder each year.

Thanks iamnomad. In that case, I might just have to apply for PR sooner then. True jems, even private health insurance companies are racking up a lot of money from non-residents. I'm sorry I thought you live in Sydney and no, I don't work for St. George.

I'm just wondering how costly is it without Medicare? Are you with any insurance companies? What have they covered with your recent hospital visit?

^I had BUPA health cover when I was still on 457 visa and it was $96+ per month. I still have private health cover through them but now it's only like $16+ because I already have basic cover through Medicare. Medicare doesn't cover for everything.
