I just completed my FNP and I am getting ready to prepare for boards under the AANP. Has anyone taken boards for 2014 as yet? How is it? and how did you prepare for the Certification exam? What review materials do you suggest? and How long did you study before taking boards?

I bought the Fitzgerald Review and listened to all of the cd's as well as following along in her book, and I did all of the questions in the back of the Leik book. I took the AANP FNP exam in July and passed first time. Good luck on your exam!

Hi, I passed in December 2014 and said I would come back and comment. I did APEA live review and Q-bank, Bates book, Fitzgerald Certification Review Book (like 5-7 chapters). I think APEA review was spot on. I studied for 3 months about 3-4 hours 5 days each week. AANP Practice exam-80% and APEA predictor exam-75%. Scored in the 70's and 80's the last couple of weeks on the APEA Q-bank.

The exam is definitely achievable. I found myself knowing the answers to some questions before I looked at the answer choices. Remember ASSESSMENT. This is why I reviewed the Bates book and I am glad I did because there were quite a few questions from information in that book. There are those questions that you will not know the answer too but just count them as a loss. If you study hard and know the presenting signs and symptoms of a disease, diagnostics, and treatment then you will pass.

Good Luck!!

I took my FNP boards Nov 2014. Barkley 3 day :up:review (Hilton in Atlanta) & Leik (online review) they both together prepare me for the exam. Studied 3 mos and was more than prepared. Good luck.... oh yea... when preparing put away all other material.

I passed AANP last week. Leik book, Barkley and Fitzgerald CD's for about the past year, and Barkley review a few days before testing did the trick for me.

I took the AANP earlier this week and did not pass. I thought I was ready, I had done the Barkley review and had done about 400 questions out the Leik book, I also did the AANP practice exam got and 80% ( I know its not a predictor exam). I will sign up to take the AANP and ANCC at the end of this month hopefully. I am going to study harder to actually know the material better. Also I'm thinking of doing the APEA QBank 1 month subscription, would you all recommend that over ExamEdge.

Hi, sorry to hear that. I am scheduled to take AANP at the end of January and nervous bc Ive heard it was a new test in January 2015. Was there new material other than JNC 8?

THANKS

From what I can remember it was still JNC 7 guidelines, go over EPR3 for asthma. And know presenting s&s of disease, diagnostics and treatment plans, common diseases are seen commonly go over EENT and derm really well. I had some GYN and pregnancy questions that stumped me also.

Hi ryguyRN!

Do you have APEA's CDs? Amelie was spot on with the AANP exam. Her information and Leik's book helped me the most( and hours of studying). The bundle questions from Exam Edge were like refresher questions for me. I did the Q bank questions because our school had us do them over the Christmas break last year. The APEA predictor tests are good. Good Luck!...You will pass it next time:yes:

I am planning to retake the AANP at the end of the month and the ANCC also. I am going through and really studying the material with Barkley this time, I have a quiz partner and doing flashcards. I have been doing the Qbank also. Did you think the Exam Edge tests were worth it? Maybe I will try those too, I sure could use a confidence boost.

The Exam Edge Questions helped me to remember simple things that I had forgotten. I think having a partner is a great idea. I studied for that exam until I could not study anymore. I tried not to overwhelm myself, and I made sure I knew the material. I did not know much about Womens Health either, but going through Apea's CDs and study book helped me a lot. Some of the questions she talked about were on the exam. That exam was not easy at all, but it is achievable...You got this!:)

I just found out the I got a 493 on the AANP and needed a 500 to pass. I guess I just didn't know it well enough to fail just by one or two questions, so close, I will be studying and trying to retake and PASS at the end of the month.

That score was not bad at all! I know you will pass it next time. Good Luck ryguyRN!
