I just completed my FNP and I am getting ready to prepare for boards under the AANP. Has anyone taken boards for 2014 as yet? How is it? and how did you prepare for the Certification exam? What review materials do you suggest? and How long did you study before taking boards?

I took the Fitzgerald live class, used her review book (separate from the class book), Leik review book, APEA review question book, and tests from fnptestprep.com. I studied for about 4 weeks for a few hours each day.

I took the Fitzgerald's review class about a month prior to my exam. I studied her work book and also her review book. Got the online APEA Q bank and some of Leik's review questions. Studied about 3-4 weeks and took my exam in January 2014, passed it firs try. Good luck!
Congratulations CAFNP on passing!!! Thanks for the information on your review material that worked for you. I have purchased Fitzgerald's 3rd edition book for the Certification & Practice preparation. A few nurses have stated that Fitzgerald's live review class was hard to stay awake, over loaded with detailed information that is not relevant for the AANP exam and unfortunately they did not pass. I want to register for a live review in addition to the study material that I have already purchased. Fitzgerald's live review does not come to my city until after my test date. I did not want to go in debt having to travel for the review. The APEA with Amelie Hollier is having a live review in my city this month before my test date. From your experience is Fitzgerald's review worth a plane ticket, hotel and all other travel expense?????
Wow! Congrats sugarsweet21612!!!!! I have Leik's book along with Fitzgerald's book. Were the questions from the APEA practice questions book similar to questions that were on the boards???? I have not purchased that book yet? I went to fnptestprep.com and it says "server not found". Is there another internet address for them?
Yes, Fitzgerald's review class gives you a lot more information then you need to pass the exam. I traveled to another city and paid for hotel and transportation to attend this class. For me, it was very useful and helpful and I am planning to use the information when I practice. But I have heard that Hollier's review is right to the point and gives you the info on what you need to pass the board. If I were you, I'd go to Hollier's review course. You just need to get ready for your exam and that's all you need to focus on at this point
Thanks CAFNP!!!!! Then it's settled, I will go to Hollier's review this month since it is in my city and continue to use my exam review books from APEA, Fitzgerald and Leik. I will let you guys know how I make out on the boards!!!
Sorry maybe try family np prep.com. Then go to the site that is for AANP not ANCC. I forget the exact address but you should be able to google it.

I have been an NP for quite some time and took the exam a few years ago and was unsuccessful mainly because I did not take a review course. I purchased the Fitzgerald Online/CD course and studied it over and over in its entirety.. I did all the modules over and over and the online questions.. I studied for eight weeks( 1-4hours per day).. I made a small calendar to track my study..Most of the content is theory based.. There were questions on cultural competence, skin, diabetes, hypertension, Medicare, malpractice insurance, NP practice, research ( as in type of research the holds the most weight). I found her course extremely helpful.. I could not find a live course in my area at that time( I live in NY) but I'm glad I didn't travel.. Her portable course is just as good and all you really need.. Her review book( not the one tha came with the course but the one sold in book stores) was outdated.. I think she has a new version in the works to reflect the exam changes..I passed.. Hope this helps

I had been searching around on google for the longest and could not find the family NP prep exam site you were referring to. Another post on here stated that the address changed to: http://www.AANP-FNP.com the prices seem reasonable: If anybody else is taking FNP under AANP for 2014 here are the prices.

Thanks nursecosita for sharing your study techniques and your thoughts on Fitzgerald's review. I have her 2010 book with practice questions. I have already registered for Hollier's live review this month coming to my home town, because I could not spare the financial expense of traveling for Fitzgerald's review. I will add her CD's to my list of prep material to purchase.
