Can a NP make over $100k a year?

Hey, I'm a high school senior trying to figure out if becoming a Nurse Practitioner is the right thing for me. It may seem like I want to go into a specialty because of the money, but that is not the case. I honestly do care for people and I love to help them. I am just trying to find a profession that I can be very successful at Nurse Practitioner, Doctor of Chiropractic, Dentist, Doctor of Optometry. Just a specialty that I can help people and make wonderful money at the same time. Any guidance?

I am in an Urgent Care setting in Oklahoma. Fresh out of school making around 100K a year. Its possible, I do know that there isn't many here in Oklahoma that make that much. The average is 80K. It does come with some drawbacks. I can see 50+ patients a day whereas in a different setting this is more regulated but thats also why the pay isn't as high.

Even as an associate-degreed bedside RN, it's possible to make >$100K. Using the allnurses.com search function, you can find threads discussing this. It usually involves consistent overtime, travel nursing, agency work, second jobs, or a combination of those. It also depends a lot on the geographic area where you work.

One thing to consider when you think about potential salaries: cost of living. Making $100K in California, for example, might not be as great as making $80K in an area where it costs much less to live.

np's in my area make 45k. I asked why this is. Was told mostly women hold those positions, cannot move and the docs low ball them. That is why Np's are prefered over PA's. PA's ask for more $$ and if they do not get it they move. That is why I will move when I get finished. Nurse at my hospital also get only 18/hour. Probably same reason why. Nurse manager got mad because she said new nurses are in it for the money.

45k is low even for a RN...

18/hr is an insult, no nurse should work for that. That hospital/clinic is making a lot of money...
