Year 1 nursing student here, to those practicing nurses or those currently in nursing school, are there any nursing textbooks or books about nursing skills or experiences you found worthwhile to supplement your learning with during school or just are a good read/resource? I find my theory text EXTREMELY dry and have a hard not zoning out when I'm reading it. It's also been super hard for me as a kinesthetic learner doing school online. I love books that lay concepts out simply without too much unnecessary detail and include examples. Looking for books that really walk you through the how of nursing skills and provide a good summary as well as books that kind of put you into the mindset of a nurse if that makes sense. Some that I'm considering getting are the Saunders NCLEX review, oh sh*t I almost killed you, medsurg notes clinical pocket guide and bates guide to physical examination (which is for med students but it just looks awesome). Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I read a book that is NOT a textbook, but IMO should be required reading for anyone in healthcare. It is called "My Stroke of Insight." It was written by Jill Bolte Taylor, a neuroanatomist, who suffered a severe debilitating stroke. She writes about what it felt like to have the stroke, and details her recovery which took over 7 years. It profoundly changed some some of my long held beliefs about nursing care. It was a quick read, she also does some ted talks. I know this wasn't exactly what you were asking, but I found the book SO valuable, and I also recommend it to anyone who has ever had a loved one that has suffered a stroke.
Thanks for the suggestion! I'm definitely interested in any book that improves my understanding of the patient perspective/would make me a better nurse. We were assigned an except from "Bed Number 10" by Sue Baier that I loved and found extremely insightful. My dad actually had 2 strokes so this is something I am super interested in, will be sure to check it out. Thanks again!
