Does anyone here have any experience with the Yellow Ribbon Program?
I just finished my active duty enlistment as a Hospital Corpsman in the USN (I'm now a drilling reservist) and I have applied for my Post-9/11 GI Bill benefit but according to the VA it could take 30 days for my claim to be processed.
My question is for anyone who has used the Yellow Ribbon Program, how far in advance did you apply and were you able to get the max benefit? I'm concerned that since I have to wait 30 days at minimum just to get my GI Bill approved and then apply for Yellow Ribbon that the program may be maxed out.
My nursing program begins September 2017 and without the supplement from Yellow Ribbon I won't be able to afford it. On the school's website it says the undergrad award is typically $10,000 (then matched by the VA) which would be perfect if I'm able to get the full amount.
I guess I should have applied sooner but this is my first time attempting to use the GI Bill and I thought I had to wait until my acceptance to apply.
If anyone has any insight into the program or personal experience, that would be great! Thank you :)
