1. The Senate Judiciary Committee passed the immigration bill to the fullSenate late Monday, March 27, 2006
The Senate Judiciary Committee's bill includes the following provisions:
1. Allows illegal immigrants who arrived in the U.S. before 2004 to
continue working legally for six years after paying a $1,000 fine and clearing
a criminal background check. They would also become eligible for permanent
residency after paying another $1,000 fine, back taxes, and learning English.
2. Creates a large temporary worker program that allows 400,000
foreigners to come to the U.S. each year. These immigrants could earn
permanent residency after six years.
3. Creates a guest worker program for an estimated 1.5 million
immigrant farm workers, who can then earn legal permanent residency.
Then how about people who stay in US legally on various visas?
This has only passed one committee, it has not even been approved by the US Senate, then it needs approval from the House of Representatives.
