32 year old married with 3 kids finishing my BSN, L&D/ER experience ~NEED ANSWERS~

Published

I am seeking any and all information about army nursing. My husband is Army NG (E6 88M), a police officer on the civilian side and not all that enthused about this Need of mine. I want to finish my BSN tentative grad date 08 2014 and join active duty 66G. I spoke with a recruiter who was not nearly as excited as me and said that my previous RN experience would help me out 2 years ER and by 2.5 years L&D in joining. My questions are...

Is it really that competitive?

Is my age going to be a problem (33 at grad date)

Will it be that hard to go L&D?

Where do most 66G get stationed?

What does a typical schedule look like for an Army Nurse?

What's the nurse pt ratio?

How hard is it going to be to get my husband active duty, he heard there were no lateral transfers. Recruiter did not give me any info about him...

What is typical pay for an Army Nurse?

What is active duty life like?

I am so excited (all thoughts consumed with this next life goal of mine) any information will be oh so appreciated!!!

Thanks so much!

So many of your questions have been answered on this forum many times over... A little searching will yield a lot of info! But yes, it is very competitive. Your BSN GPA will be a factor, your age will not. You would likely commission as a 1LT, you can use Google to find 1LT/O-2 pay rates. Your best bet is to contact a healthcare recruiter for specifics as far as the needs of the Army - they are ever changing, but the Army Nurse Corps remains overstrength. Good luck! :-)
