Year Off And Cna Certification Necessary?

Published

2 things!

1. Does anyone have any opinions on what I can do during the year off from my undergraduate career (no nursing degree) to my nursing school career? (I will be applying during the year off as well).

2. Do you know if people are hired to become Nursing Assistants without taking a certification course?

Thanks so much!

Having had no experience in nursing when I started school, I would take the CNA classes and get a job to get those basic skills downpat. It's so helpful and really helps you to feel more at ease when you start clinicals in school!

Good luck!

1. CNA experience can be very helpful. I did that myself and was glad I did. I am now accepted into nursing program (it was a points system) and got points for the CNA certification and experience.

2. As far as I know, no. Certification is for insurance purposes.

Hope that helped a little.

It depends on the facility/type of work if you need to be certified or not... I live within 10 miles of two huge hospitals that hire NA's and having your CNA doesn't matter.

Most long term care centers require certification

Many hospitals do not, same with home health care aids.
