I started a new grad nurse residency program about 2 months ago. After a few weeks of general employee orientation, they asked me to sign a 2 year contract. The only thing the piece of paper said was "I agree to work here for two years". It said nothing about penalties of breaking the contract or anything of that nature. My residency program is pretty much a joke, 10 weeks with a preceptor(6 on med/surg and then 4 on my home unit, ortho). I know someone else who was hired in the same hospital but not in the residency program who has a longer orientation. It's going well enough but I'm slowly realizing I hate bedside nursing, so I'd like to leave after a year if possible. So basically my question is legally, would I be required to pay back anything to the hospital if it wasn't stated on the contract I signed?
