Okay, I know it's early, but Yale is my first choice, and I'm already terrified that I'm going to screw it up. My goal is New England (although I'm also applying to Pace because they have this Science Summer thing for those of us who haven't taken anatomy yet), and I want to be a Gerontological Nurse Practitioner.
I eventually want to either have a mobile clinic for poorer older folks who can't afford more traditional options or who are home-bound, or make home-calls in some other way.
I think Yale will help me get there, but I don't think I'll get in. I have a lower GPA (but still above a 3.0) from UC Santa Cruz, and I spent the last two years teaching in Taiwan, only to find out I don't like teaching very much. I'm taking my GREs in three weeks and I'm starting some prereqs this summer.
I'm also applying to Simmons, Pace, Northeastern, MGH and Boston College.
Before I ramble on any longer, anyone else applying?
I got an interview, but I have to do it by phone since I'm working full time that week (1/28). Is anyone else doing a phone interview? I've already seen campus but I wonder if it will negatively affect their decision.
Also, for UW applicants, there is another thread going: https://allnurses.com/post-graduate-nursing/university-washington-gepn-444945.html
Good luck to everyone in interviews!
Hi Maziemoo22,
They ask you all sorts of questions basics like why you want to be a nurse and things like that, how you handle yourself in certain situations, and also touch on some of the points of your essay. I don't remember any specific questions regarding majors but my major was tied into what I applied for so Im sure I touched on that as well. If you have any patient care skills I would play that up as well.
Im not exactly sure if they tell you why you didn't get accepted. I got waitlisted both times but I do know that people do get rejected after having been interviewed. The waitlist is kinda complicated as its anyones guess if there will be a spot that opens and Im not sure even how many people are on it for each specialty.
hi everyone :)
i guess i'm a little late on finding this thread..as i was trying to take my cues for the admissions process from the '08 thread.
i applied to yale for the CNW track, and my interview is on the 28th. i planned on living at home and commuting if i was accepted, to defray living expenses, however i'm starting to get a little nervous that that may not be such a great idea.
in any case, im so excited for the interview day, and i hope to meet some other CNW-hopefuls!
I would say wear whatever you are most comfortable in. I wore a suit one year and a sweater and pants the next, felt much more comfortable without the suit. I think either would be fine but the main thing is to feel comfortable...so wear what you like! The rest will fall into place, at the end of the day they wont remember what you wore but how you interacted with them!
Thanks Rocker66!
If you haven't been reading the Yale message board I wanted to highlight it. You can go here: http://messageboard.chatuniversity.com/yalenursing2. I have to say, I'm really impressed by the transparency administration is providing!
I just printed the Financial Aid sheet and looks pretty straight forward after you get your W2. From what I've read your Yale Financial Aid form is a general estimate and its better to turn it in on time even if you don't know what types of outside aid you are applying for. If you, or anyone knows differently please share!
