HI,
I am a third year nursing student in Australia studying to be a RN. I have to write a care pan for a 70yr man who is suffering from Alzheimer's disease. He had a heart attack in 1984 and recieved an aortic valve replacement in 1992. He has been married for 27years and his wife can no longer care for him as she is also unwell and has applied to go into the nursing home where her husband resides.
In this care plan i need to identify issues between them both and the way i will address these issues.
I also need to outline some nursing care activities for them.
I have no idea of any nursing activities I would use and don't know what issues they will have between them.
Any help is greatly appreciated thanks.

Surely you will be assessing this patient first, before you can create a care plan?
no it is part of an assessment piece. It is a scenario we have been given.
When you say nursing activities are they the same as our nursing interventions? Also, is that all of the assessment data? No indication of what stage of Alz? Type of heart valve? Do they really only want you to write about the relationship issues (and not the other stuff)?
I think you should have a decent stab yourself before others here pitch in. Look up Alzheimer's and read up on how it affects the family process.
Presumably in third year you know how to kick yourself off a bit.
So how did it go?
