Wow, penalties are severe.............

When I started looking in to NS I talked to an admissions person. He was excellant and flatly told me that if you make a mistake you could kill someone and those words have stuck in my head as I prepare to start school next year. But I was just going through the state website (I live in NY) and stumbled on the disciplinary action pages and WOW the penalties for making a mistake are severe. But being that I have experienced excellant nursing care it is shocking that a nurse could make a mistake but I guess it only shows that we are human and it can happen. But stumbling on the website has made me understand even more that not charting properly can get me in trouble so when it comes to doing my job as a nurse I will make sure that I am as thorough as I can possibly be. But it did scare me a little, I guess in my heart I always knew that I would have someone else's life in my hands and I guess I took for granted that I would treat them the way I would want to be treated but seeing some of the reasons why nurses have been disciplined has made me realize that there is "behind the scenes" things that as a patient I guess I never really thought about. I dunno just wanted to share my shock I guess.
