As a staff nurse, your role in wound care is much more about understanding the wound care and healing process including what to watch for, document, and how other health issues might affect wound healing as well as prevention especially for pressure ulcers. Here is a good review article about the types of things you would most need to know. I especially like the DEBT mnemonic for what you should be monitoring.
It sounds like you're more interested in the types of dressings used at your facility. As long as you know how to use them, the choice of dressing and frequency of wound care is usually up to someone with more training but if you just want to know more, this is a decent review of wound care as well as the basic types of dressings available.
Here is also a decent CE course on wound care basics. The information is available free, you only have to pay if you want to take the test and earn credit. Finally, if you have an educator or co-worker who is particularly knowledgeable and experienced, sometimes they have the best tips/advice.
