Would like opinions on RN program acceptance

A semi-brief rundown of my qaundary:

I've been working in a RCFE for 10+ years and absolutely love my job. It is rewarding, challenging, and I'm happy to go in each day.

Over my course of employment, I've been chipping away at the pre-reqs for the ADN program, and received my acceptance letter for the Fall 2010 program.

I love what I do, where I work, who I work with, pay is acceptable.

I want to get my RN license for security down the road. Regs could change, the company could be sold, who knows? Most other RCFE's that I look at that have positions very similar to mine require an RN license. So if something were to happen, I wouldn't be able to easily find a job elsewhere.

I feel like I'd be an idiot to pass on the program, but on the other hand I feel as if I'm be stupid to give up something that I love and have been doing for so long.

Any thoughts?

Get the RN license. It will be good insurance for the long run. Perhaps you can work something out to keep on with your present job for part time basis or a change in your hours or take a formal leave of absence. Some employers will allow LOAs. You won't know until you ask.

Is working part-time an option with your company? I'm in an ADN program and work about 25 hours a week, as do most of my peers. It's difficult, and takes discipline, but it's possible. I would say that any opportunity to further your education is worth it!
