Would a job as an MDS RN be good for a new grad?

Nursing Students Student Assist

I'm not sure where to put this post...I'll try this spot.

Anyhow, I will be graduating from a 2 year RN program next month & will be taking the NCLEX as soon as I am able to sign up for it. I am planning to get my BSN online.

I was offered a job as an MDS nurse in a nursing home. The plusses are it's days, full time, benefits, and decent salary, esp for a new grad.

The minuses are: it seems like a lot of paperwork (does anyone know more of this job to add input?), it's 20 minutes away & in another state. I live in Washington, and it's in Post Falls, Idaho.

I'm not sure what to do..There will be a bunch of students looking for jobs, and me wanting a day job and not willing to take nights because I have a little kiddo and I refuse to compromise that, as I would not have child care at night even if I wanted a night job.

Take the job and look for another one? Or just keep looking? If anyone has experience in this RN position, please share.

Thank you...

it is almost entirely paperwork, you'll learn a lot about elder patient assessment, billing, and medicare rules and regs that eventually you can use in a management position in a skilled facility, if that's where your interests eventually take you. i know people roll their eyes at it, but by god it's where the money comes from to hire more nurses, and so it's a very important position. if you are good at it, you will be worth your weight in gold.

twenty minutes away, days only, benefits and salary? what are you waiting for, girl? take it... and keep looking if you think you have to.

Thank you!! :)
